Hi all
I have a 2007 Cayman S with 80,000 miles on it. Its driven great up until today when suddenly the CEL came on (flashing) and I was feeling vibrations along with what can only be described as a low level sound spluttering (rumbling). It struggles to move off from a standing start (like its going to stall).
I limped it the remaining 2 miles home (luckily I was very close when it happened).
Just wondering if anyone knows what I should be looking at before I look at a big service bill?
Last night I refueled at a new to me gas station - my fuel light had just come on and I went to a gas station that was cheaper then where I normally go and filled up. Not sure if that could be part of it I would hope not but thought I should throw it out there.
Just picked up a diagnostic tool from Sears and have the following error code
P0305 cylinder 5 misfiring I believe
Could someone assist in troubleshooting that please
I note that there has been a lot of mention of replacing the offending coil packs and spark plugs when this error code comes up? I have to say I wouldn't even know where these are located on my cayman. Or where to order them from.
Thank you for any and all help
#5 is the middle plug on driver (LHS). You could start by pulling the coil pack and plug and looking at them. What is the age of your plugs? Any mechanical noises from the engine like ticking?
The possibilities are: coil, plug, plug wire(not likely) fuel injector, and maybe a crank sensor, but since #5 cylinder is identified I doubt that is the problem. With 80k miles if the plugs are original I would definitely change them, and to get the plugs out the coils have to come out so they can be inspected to see if one is bad. Cracks on the outside normally indicate a defective one. Changing plugs and coils are one of the easier jobs on these cars, jack it up. pull the rear wheels, pull the splash panels off, and remove the coils and plugs. HOwever if you don't know where they are located, check the articles here and on the Cayman REgister for illustrated how-tos. Or find another member willing to help. Third option is an indy shop, and last resort is the dealer. I'm cheap, so I usually do everything myself.
Thank you Rob and Mitch
I jacked her up the other day and got to the coil pack which was cracked.
Replaced all sparks as well whilst I was dirty.
