Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, Am currently hoping to buy my 1st 911!!! But as a new perspective owner am totalling in the dark for what to look out for to make sure I don't buy a lemon!!!! I know the basics "service history, oils, rattles etc" but is there any other checks that should be done???? Any help most welcome.... Thanks guys/galls Craig

POST 2Original post

If you're that much in the dark I'd respectfully suggest that you find a car that meets your needs in terms of age/mileage/colour/spec/price etc and then pay an expert to do a PPI.

POST 3Original post

Hi Crazy c two articles worth reading, Have just been through this myself and dont be tempted to bypass the PPI. http://www.gtpurelyporsche.com/buyingguide.asp http://www.evo.co.uk/buying/buyingguide/235617/porsche_996_turbo.html Good luck let us know how you get on!

POST 4Original post

You can get the inspection done at an Official Porsche Centre or try Peter Morgan who is highly respected in his knowledge of Porsches. It is a good £350 spent. They are likely to find something that you can use as a bargaining tool (within reason obviously) and you will probably save at least the cost of the inspection.

POST 5Original post

My preferred route, unless you want an OPC warranty in which case get an OPC 111 point inspection, is to take the car to the nearest independent porsche specialist where the seller is. It will be chaper than Peter Morgan (as they will only charge you an hour or two of labour) and they get to put it up on a ramp as well to fully inspect underneath. By the way, don't worry about a rattly engine on a Turbo, they all do it to some extent, see here: http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?p=592698#592698

POST 6Original post

Irrespective of the outcome of any PPI always leave a buffer/ bit of a reserve as invariably it will most likely require some attention along the way, and even the most minor things are potentially expensive... accept that as a matter of course when owning what is still a great car and it'll reward you with a driving experience you'll be hard pressed to get elsewhere...

POST 7Original post

Massively agree with spy have to question the value in a roadside inspectional £300+ vs Indy specialist £100 or less full ramp, diagnostics etc!
