Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suggestion
In going from the pre to post facelift, there were quite specific changes (like adding approx 200cc to the engine capacity by a longer stroke, bore/piston dimensions are the same), and that added power.
Leading evidence: 'Replace (like adding approx 200cc' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace (like adding approx 200cc' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

That's a fairly comprehensive list of changes in the facelifted version that Spongbob has posted. However, your list includes options on the facelift, ie the Bose and the headlight washers (which came as part of the Xenon light package). So not all facelifted cars came with these.

You have to work out if you need/want any of the "upgrades" from 996.1 to 996.2
The 996 (like most Porsche) was continually improved during its life. Most changes were made at Model Year (MY) start in August. Some were intra-year.
For some people they love or hate either the "Fried egg" headlamps or the "Crying eyes"/"Teardrop" later design.
Fried Egg - 3.4 : 996.1
HALOGEN
XENON (LITRONIC)
Crying Eyes - 3.6 : 996.2
In 1999 Porsche partially face-lifted the 996 with clear lenses (with an amber reflector behind the main lens). This was to distinguish the 996 from the Boxster.
In going from the pre to post facelift, there were quite specific changes (like adding approx 200cc to the engine capacity by a longer stroke, bore/piston dimensions are the same), and that added power. Some safety or structural stuff also added weight, that may be important to you.
Other things like glovebox (the 996.1 made do with just the centre cubby/armrest) and cupholders are pretty ephemeral in the scheme of things.
And lights/bumper design is mostly cosmetic, so personal choice.
Personally, I dislike the newer instrument cluster as the old big digital display just under the central rev counter was replaced with a dot-matrix computer display and the digital speed display moved to the left dial and made smaller.
This retrograde ergonomic step was corrected in the 997 (restoring the big central display).

Things like CANbus (or MOST - Media Oriented Systems Transport) poses as many problems as it solves as it can be a pain if you wish to upgrade the audio system etc.
Later cars are CO2 rated, rather than capacity rated for VED (road tax). What effect this will have in the future is anyone's guess and could go either way for either model.

996 face lift / MY2002
Hi All. As per Mikee, I am considering investing in my first Porsche (996 Turbo). Someone wrote on PH in their ad that this facelift also included rain sensing wipers...? Is that correct or maybe it was an option. Cheerz Stepperz
On the early Turbos rain sensing wipers was an option. The MY2002 Turbo facelift included them, along with PCM2, and the glove box and matt switches of the main 996 facelift..
Turbo Options
Thanks Richard. Reason I was asking is that I am looking seriously at a 2002 at the moment which has a glove box but not the rain sensing wipers apparently...so either the dealer doesnt know about the wipers or they dont work or its an earlier MY and the glove box is a retrofit...thanks for your post. Cheerz Stepperz
Brilliant.... & hells bells, how do you know this stuff? Seems we have similar taste, I am after a 996tt in Arctic 2002/2003. Thanks again...do you work in the trade may I ask? Cheerz Stepperz
