Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

The rivet is not a part that is replaced by itself.
Leading evidence: 'Replace by itself' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'stops me worrying about it' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Adjust position of the rear quarter window' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

All this being said, and having the entire thing replaced once under warranty, the squeak came back.

Suggestion
The squeak goes away, but the BROKEN rivet is actually crucial to adjust the position of the rear quarter window.

Suggestion
This time I put a hex wrench in the open rivet, it is made that way to adjust the window in/out.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have an annoying squeak/rattle on my 06 CS. Its intermittent and is usually when im going over a bumpy road.
It comes from where the seatbelt retracts at the top into the interior panel, just behind my ear/passenger ear! Or slightly behind this area.
Its on both sides, but especially bad on the passenger side.
Does anyone have any ideas/clues?
From some of the threads I read a while back whilst looking for a solution to a rattle I had, I recall that some members had some issues with roof liner clips. Try out the search function and am sure you'll come right. This site is a wealth of information.
There are multiple threads on the now "infamous" B piller squeak on our beloved
Caymans
. Search is your friend and there are detailed correction instructions out here somewhere too. Good luck.
I will add my 2 cents:
B pillar squeak is well-known in
Caymans
, but I recently developed a very annoying squeak that took 2 trips to the dealer to fix. Ended up being the door-latch mechanism and it sounded exactly as if it was coming from the "B pillar".
This was on a
Boxster S
, but if B pillar fixes don't resolve the issue, it wouldn't be a bad idea to check the door latch as well.
Second that...I have been making adjustments to the strike plate on the driver's door and I can get it to go away for a few weeks. Then it comes back some. But at least I know how to take care of it. You'll need a special bit to loosen/tighten the screws holding the plate. 8mm 12 point star bit I believe.
I have a noise below my left ear that is annoying too. Sounds like it could be the window, but could be the door latch.
Curious about the roof liner squeek. Seems like if this the problem then the noise would move or go away if you have the top closed? Is that what people who had this problem observed?
Re: Interior Squeak (solution-my original post)
This "bolt" is a hollow rivet. If you simply turn the nut, even a quarter turn, the rivet will snap. The squeak goes away, but the BROKEN rivet is actually crucial to adjust the position of the rear quarter window. Once broken the entire window assembly must come out. The rivet is not a part that is replaced by itself. It has no part number. I know all this because I have broken one trying to get rid if this most annoying squeak when the car flexes. All this being said, and having the entire thing replaced once under warranty, the squeak came back.
This time I put a hex wrench in the open rivet, it is made that way to adjust the window in/out. While holding hex wrench steady and turning nut a few degrees with a crescent wrench, able to tighten, get rid of squeak and not snap the thin, hollow rivet.
Update: used blue locktite, held for about 6 mos. still comes back but now takes only 10 min. To open, tighten and put back together. I MUST STRESS, DO NOT TIGHTEN NUT WITHOUT HOLDING HEX HEAD RIVET IN PLACE! It will break off!

Re: Interior Squeak - Fixed!
As previously mentioned - Grease the door latch. Easy fix! And then the question, Why didn't I try this sooner!
Thank You Planet 9!!!
Re: Interior Squeak - Fixed!
Other area is the rear speakers come loose and need to be re-tightened, had this issue and once addressed - all is good.... Seems like a lot of little issues like this to deal with on the interior.
I am going absolutely insane because of the squeak in my
Boxster
. Does the B pillar squeak that
Caymans
experience also occur in Boxsters? I know that this squeak is not the door strike plate because if I open the door while driving the noise doesn't go away.
The squeak sounds like two pieces of styrofoam being rubbed together, so I suppose it could be described as a bird-like chirp as the
Cayman
squeak has been.
NTI 987 - I'm willing to bet that is the sound of the leather on your seat rubbing against the center console as you go over bumps. When you sit in the seat, the base cushion spreads out and rubs against the plastic
next
to it. Try pulling the right hand side of your seat base towards you and It might just stop. If you are anything like me, knowing what the cause is stops me worrying about it.
I have 3 squeaks / rattles that are driving me crazy. They are
next
on my list of "mods" / repairs. I'll check the list that you guys have listed.
One is an intermittent one behind my right ear / pass seat.
One is the left side of the dash / gauge hood / key hole area.
The last is a squeak from the seat belt assembly rubbing on the seat or center console. Maybe some felt will fix this one.
Forgot this one..."One is the left side of the dash / gauge hood / key hole area." Both my 05
Boxster
and my
Cayman
had this one. The joys of owning a sports car!
that's the one that drives me crazy because I can't find it and it isn't all the time. I start frantically grabbing different parts of the dash when I hear it...
* shakes fist * I'll find you rattle... one of these dayyyys...
I had the same problem. And for me it was the black rubber around the small quarter windows behind your ears. The rubber was loose and grinding or rubbing. I didn't do anything to fix it, and it went away on it's own. Maybe the heat molded it into a different position.
Re: Interior Squeak - Fixed!
techjockey, I read your remedy and went out to the garage just now. I greased the latch and the squeak went away! It had been driving me crazy and like most folks, I tried greasing the weather stripping with all types of different products to no avail! I hope this stays that way but as of tonight, the squeak in my driver's side door is no more! THANKS!
