Hi everyone, I'm hoping to get some input or suggestions...
I recently replaced my AOS two days ago after it started smoking excessively on startups. After replacing the AOS, it ran fine with no issues for about 60 miles, after which it started to emit hesitations around 3k on every gear. The rpm's would bounce between 200-1200 rpms in idle at the stoplight. Now the car would not even idle after several attempts to start. The odd thing was that there was no CEL.
I did some search here last night on what the issue might be and some threads mentioned the MAF sensor due to the oil that was sucked in the intakes. I will be cleaning that today as well as the throttle body. I also checked to make sure that all the hoses (3) related to the AOS was still intact, which they were.
The car is an 06 S with 68k miles. I've had it since 46k and have never tracked the car. Not really sure what else to look for or check before taking it to my indy shop.
Thoughts and suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance!
You can if you are careful remove and clean the MAF. But I would advise you need not bother.
I've cleaned the MAF in my 02
Boxster
twice in over 264K miles and both times it was not dirty and this after several AOSs having failed.
Now the throttle body was dirty, oily from the first AOS failure and carefully cleaning this made a marked improvement in the engine's idle behavior until the failing AOS oiled it up again.
You did the right thing double checking the AOS installation. The symptoms suggest an intake air leak and the first thing I would suspect is the AOS installation. The 2nd is a bad (out of the box) AOS. This possibility is why there is a 2 years warranty on new parts...
The hesitation around 3K could arise from the intake resonance system not working. Perhaps you disconnected this by accident or failed to reconnect it properly?
Thank you so much Rockster!
I cleaned the MAF, throttle body, intake pipes and it now runs fine! Crossing my fingers that it stays that way for sometime lol!
It was tough trying to put the plenum back but I definitely learned a lot more about the car.
Thank you sir! You Rock!
For the record, the Rockster is the most thoughtful, informative responder on this forum. I look forward to all his responses, regardless of topic and regardless of the problem he's reponding to. Thank you sir. I for another appreciate your participation more than you likely realize.

I have similar symptoms - drove the car to work today, ran fine. upon exiting the highway tonight it stalled. Restarting has the engine dropping to a low idle than up again. It's stalled a few times...
I hooked up the Durametric, and could not see any error codes. I did check the "Ready Status" option while the car was running, and the Oxygen Sensors indicated FAIL versus PASS. The actual value option does show a value for all four sensors.
It appears to be idling fine now. Has anyone needed to replace their 02 Sensors post AOS failure? Any luck removing and cleaning (soaking in gas)? I'm going to try cleaning the throttle body as well....
So I changed my air filter today, and noticed the old air filter had engine oil on the bottom. Now the shop overfilled the oil, and it showed on the very top line. I also took a long hard right turn. Would the overfilled oil go into the air filter, or is this possibly collateral damage related to the AOS failure? Does anyone know how to remove the throttle body on the 2.7?
Thanks.
