Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I just bought a 996 3.4 Carrera Tip S and was wondering if any member has installed a K & N 57-7000 performance air filter. http://www.knfilters.com/search/product.aspx?Prod=57-7000 Is it worth the £267 and did you see any impovments? Thanks guys Sav

POST 2Original post

Congratulations! There is loads of material on the K&N and other CAI kits - opinions are mixed but overall my impression of the consensus is "do it for fun and for the sound of it, but don't expect to see much extra power". If you click on Search Forum and search for "CAI" (because it probably won't like the ampersand in K&N) you will find plenty of reading matter!

POST 4Original post

I hate them for these reasons. http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=56992 http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=56918 http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=56839 But it's your money, and other than endangering the MAF and possibly actually reducing the BHP, it will make more noise.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks GT4, think I might just leave it std for now...

POST 6Original post

Don't leave it standard. Get a PSE (or Oettle) and fit a CAI (Schnell/FabSpeed) with the Helmholtz Resonator removed.

POST 7Original post

K & N 57-7000 I have just fitted the K & N induction kit & the sound is fab...can't say I notice any difference in performance...in fact sems to be more refined when revving but maybe because of the noise it just seems different. My question is that I bought my kit in the USA as it was half the UK price....it fitted with no problems but from previous posts it seems that not all come with the drycharger (mine did)....the instructions suggest it must be fitted.....it must affect the air induction so will it cause any problems if I dont fit it. I try to avoid going out when its pouring so I am not concerned about the filter getting too wet. Thanks Paul

+1 Wise words from 4 And welcome to Porsche Make sure you paint it silver they're the faster cars.

POST 9Original post

Re: K & N 57-7000 I think my worry would be the filter drawing in water droplets and then the water droplets taking dirt or oil with it into the MAF.

POST 10Original post

My Turbo has a Evoms V-Flow air intake, I recently replaced the filter with one that they sell that is 100% Oil Free that they indicated to be is MAF safe. The filter system came on the car and I quite like it... would I have purchased had I not had it... I'm note sure... there are some things in life not worth pondering...

POST 11Original post

Sorry 4, maybe a daft question. What is the Helmholtz Resonator?

Welcome Easier to just look here than explaine. :thumb: http://www.911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=53873 or search here http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=56918&highlight=helmholtz+resonator

POST 13Original post

CAI GT4...is the CAI method possible with a Tiptronic Car? my car has the gas pipe that flows into the airbox as per US models!!! Mine is definately a UK model spec though!

POST 14Original post

Yes. You have two options: 1) Request Tip version (with tapping point in CAI pipe to mimic OEM) or 2) Add an additional mini-filter cone (looks like a sponge fish tank aerator) to the Tip breather tube. Speak to supplier to determine if the manufacturer offers either on their CAI kits.

POST 15Original post

Thanks Bentley much appreciated for the help. I now have my first bid of news on 996 modding. Now I just need to buy a 996.
