My 07
Cayman
will not start. The display is reading "relieve steering, steering locked". I read the posts on this site and tried the suggestions but nothing worked. The local
Porsche
dealer told me while turning the ignition jerk the steering wheel hard to the right, still nothing. His
next
suggestion was to have it towed to the dealer. Anyone have a better idea.
Is the
battery
charged? Is the
battery
in your remote good? This is the first time I've seen this problem reported.

This happened to me a few weeks ago. The wheels are turned in such a way that the steering wheel is pressed against the internal lock, so the lock can't retract.
Just turn the wheel a couple of degrees to release that tension, and hold it while you insert the key and start the car.
IF I couldn't move the steering wheel the degree or two required to get it to unlock, I'd try relieving the pressure/tension on the wheels and the steering rack by jacking up the front of the car.
Pull firmly and hold the steering wheel in the direction the wheels are turned and then try starting.
Mine doesn't display the "relieve steering" message. I wish it had because I ran into the same no-start situation and was puzzled for a while. I kept trying to start it over and over until it finally went after a dozen tries. The second time it happened, I figured out that it was due to the steering column lock.
When you insert the key, you should hear a noticeable click from the steering column as the lock releases. Otherwise, you won't be able to turn the steering wheel very much and the car won't start. If you don't hear the click when you put the key all the way in, pull the key out and while turning the steering wheel a bit in one direction, insert the key again. If it still doesn't release, try turning the steering wheel in the other direction and insert the key. You may have to wiggle the wheel back and forth a bit if it's really stubborn.
Just a supplementary note here. Unlike the original steering locks, in the
Cayman
, the key is not directly connected to the steering lock. Its a solenoid that is activated by the key. Don't know if its' the key insertion or turning, but I agree with the earlier responses on how to relieve it.
Best of luck and check back with your results.
