All that can be fixed - but it shouldn't have to be on a $35k used car.

All used car prices are up but so are trade-in values.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey guys. I've been on the hunt for a
Cayman
for a few months and found a listing that I'm interested in. It's an '06 S with 53k miles, manual trans, in forest metallic green with cocoa leather interior. I've done quite a bit of research regarding the potential issues with the early
Cayman S
models, and was wondering how rare of a color combination this is. I'd prefer a non S, or a
987.2
to hopefully avoid major issues, but if it's a super rare combo I'd be more inclined to get a PPI at a shop nearby the seller.
They do have a carfax, but basically no service history unfortunately. Only obvious issue that I noticed browsing through the pics was the dead pixels on the speedo. Any opinions on this particular car otherwise, besides most likely being overpriced? I'm in RI so this would be a 3 season car. No tracking, and probably driven a few thousand miles a year max.
Thanks for any advice/opinions!

Not common as black or silver, but not crazy low production numbers
There was a
Boxster S
same 2006 but tiptronic loaded for big money where I live for sale at least 13 months before it moved.... they fetch silly money even with no maintenance and 10 year old dry cracked tires.
Not gonna get cheaper if I had to call it.
If it checks your boxes, arrange for a PPI on your dime and cover your hind end.

I would say the green paint is fairly uncommon, and paired with the delicious cocoa interior that would be quite rare. Most would likely be paired with tan or black, as cocoa was an expensive upgrade. I'd be tempted if the car checks out.
It IS gorgeous. But like you, I'd actually prefer the sweet little 2.7 in that year and NOT necessarily for the cheaper acquisition co$t.
Or put another way, with the current insane pricing for 10-20 year old Porsches, the non-S cars seem to be inflated considerably less and the risks are lighter as well.
Man that car is beautiful though.

Agreed!
I'd have to assume that the brown leather option is extremely rare to non existent in base models though.
Being picky about my midlife crisis car is going to cost me apparently. Hopefully just in purchase price and not major mechanical issues.
Going to ponder some more and have a chat with the dealer.
Any forest green metallic is rare.

It gets a "meh".. from me. The dark brown to me looks depressing. If it was a lighter shade it would go better with the dark green. Dark green (British Racing Green) is a British thing and to me doesn't really bring out the lines of a
Cayman
.
The price is fairly astounding - $35k for a 2006? With miles on it? It's not a 15,000-mile virgin, it's a car that's been used. If you look at the interior, the soft-finish console is boogered up, the ashtray looks used, the HVAC buttons are grubby munge, doorsills are scratched up. All that can be fixed - but it shouldn't have to be on a $35k used car. On a good day that car would be worth about $25k IMHO, given years/mileage and counting in the current car shortage price bump. For $35k you can find a
987.2
and avoid the automatic discount the .1 series has because of the reputation for bore-scoring and IMS bearing. It doesn't matter that these are "overblown" - they still affect the bottom line on the price.
Sorry - I can't see it, but I guess if you're in love with the colors you can hope when you go to sell it someone else is equally in love with them.
If you love the combination you should get it but I see several beyond hideous combinations touting one of 4 etc. Just because they are rare doesn't necessarily make them more valuable. I really would not assign any extra valuable to ugly combinations. I have seen people for example have spec'd a 2004
BMW
330i ZHP with special order green paint and tan interior over the bespoke black/grey alcantara to claim rarity. It will only add value if there at least 2 or more green/tan ZHP lovers willing to pay for it. Sometimes there is a reason some combinations are rate in that they are distasteful to most. Good luck.
I fell in love with the brown interior as soon as I saw it. Black is boring, grey is meh, and the common tan color looks super tacky to me. Those three seem to be the most common colors. From the listings I've seen anyway.
I'm still on the fence at the moment, and I appreciate all the replies!
I must have your same tastes. Lol
That color of leather looks very nice to me, BUT, like a few posts have noted, that's a steep price for the car and you could easily find your perfect mid-life-crisis car with lower mileage, lower acquisition cost, AND if you really really want to make it everything you are desiring, spend the savings on either custom interior work or finding good condition components from the Porsche disassemble market. It's rather vast. You just have to be patient and keep your eyes open.
Good luck

The used car market is insane since Covid. All used car prices are up but so are trade-in values. It only works well for you if you are trading in and buying new, but don't expect any new car discounts right now. Prices on
Caymans
have gone up 10-15k in this last year.
