If I miss the visual of the lights blinking, I find myself going back and checking the door to make sure it's locked.
Leading evidence: 'Check door' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). I wonder if this behaviour could be changed via Durametic Pro?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My
2007 Cayman
, when locking doors with remote, makes no sound to let me know the doors locked. Other than the slight physical sound of the doors locking, the only feedback I get is a visual double blink of the lights.
If a door is open, or the truck, etc, the car will "dink" a small sound (which incidentally is the exact same sound my old Jetta used to make). I'd love to somehow program the car to make that sound when locking the doors.
It sort of drives me crazy! I'm always double-checking as I walk away, I think myself, "did I lock the doors?" Having an audible indicator would be just perfect.
Anyone with me on this?
Yeah, I'm with you on this.
If I miss the visual of the lights blinking, I find myself going back and checking the door to make sure it's locked.
I don't need the horn beeping at me, but a small audible sound from the car would be nice.

By the way, I think that might be K-man S' car (before cosmetic mods) in the video demo.
I would like some visible sign, like a virtual door lock of old. How about a red
LED
on top of the door that glows red when locked.
I'm down on remotes these days when after returning to my
Toyota
Sienna I found both sliding doors open, full of photography equipment. The remote works at such a great distance that after I locked the cars, I must have hit the buttons in my pocket, but this would have been 100 yards away or more.
+1. Besides making only a slight sound (solenoid?), the light flash is not visible from the vicinity of the door. Only when you are standing in front of, or behind the car.
On my old BMW Z4, the side-marker lights flashed too.
I wonder if this behaviour could be changed via Durametic Pro?
I guess i've gotten use to it, since my E55 benz is the sameway 3 flashes of the yellow lights, except it has flashers on the outside mirrors too. but i dont lock until i walk in front or behind the vehicle so i see the 3 flashes...
1. There is a small red diode that flashes regularly on the door lock button when the car is locked (though admittedly, it's hard to see from the outside).
2. If you first lock the car with the key, and then for some reason (e.g. by accident) hit the button again to unlock it, the car will re-lock itself in about 1 minute as long as no door or hatch is opened.
3. There is no "chirp" function with Durametric Pro that I can find; however, you can reprogram your sidemarkers with Durametric (or PIWIS) to act as turn signals, and in that case they do flash when you lock/unlock with the key remote.
Absolutely with you on this! I'm one of those paranoid people (I've have nightmares of someone breaking into my car). I always pull on the door handle after I lock it to give myself some reassurance. Even having separate buttons for unlock/lock would help A LOT. I was planning on installing a Cobra auto-start/lock in the CS before I got her until I found out it probably wouldn't work since there is only 1 button for lock/unlock. If I had installed it, it would have allowed me to lock my doors w/ my phone anywhere in the country!
..... and what's with that long delay before the lights flash. Seems like 3-4 seconds. I'm standing there waiting for the confirmation (when it's too noisey to hear the little clunk).
Still, thank God they didn't do the horn beep thing. That's soooo low-rent. Makes me jump every time I'm in a parking garage and the horn honks when someone locks their car.
Never been a fan of chirps. I dont like hearing everyone elses chirps and horns either. Take two steps back, hit the lock button on the remote, watch the lights flicker, move on with life. When my lights flicker I always know its my car. When a chirp goes off, it might be the hoser in the Buick.
And worst of all, the use of the horn... Especially at the motel parking lot on vacation late or early.
I like it visual and quiet as from the factory. At least there are workarounds for those who do not, but really, can't one tell it's locked? I sure can...
Also the early keys are really sensitive to being pushed - and some (like mine) have a really powerful signal. I have been deep inside a restaurant and unlocked my car out in the parking lot just by sitting down.
Mod 4 Cars also offered a early solution for decreasing the sensitivity, which along with other fixes you can look up in the article section, reduce the likelihood of that happening.
Not only have I walked back to the car multiple times to 'make sure' I really did lock it...but I've walked up to my car after being inside for hours to find that my rear hatch has somehow opened. I don't know if I'm hitting the button by accident in my pocket or what.
Oh man, how many times have I walked back to the car to make sure it locked properly? Since I park I park in the mall everyday, I'm glad it chirps and flashes so I know it's locked properly and it makes an additional chirp when I have forgotten the a door or lights. One of my "must have" mods
Interested to see how the glove box sensor thing works out... Question, if the glove box is open, I know the car will beep when pushing lock button, but will the doors still lock if the car says something was left open?
This along with the fact that the factory
Ipod
connection doesn't charge my phone are the two biggest complaints I have about the car. Other than that it is perfect. I'm actually thrilled that I will be washing her soon today. I've been out of town and have missed driving it.
Is that really what you want to hear every time you lock-up? What a buzz-kill.
I'd settle for a slightly louder sound that the mechanical clunk we get now. You can't hear it when there is any ambiant noise. But I'd take that over a horn blast in a parking garage. I curse under my breath at those every time I hear them.
Im in on this one too!!
It's very annoying to go back to the car to check whether the doors r locked or not. Dont want the locking chirps on the door but at least different sound opening and closing!
Please note that the
Mods4Cars
remotekey chirp on lock/unlock is configurable and does NOT use the main car horn, so it isn't honking your primary horn, but is chirping a secondary horn as per configuration. I very much like mine because during the day outside I can never see the parking lights flash.
Mmmmmm, yeah...
Yeah, I'd like some kind of audible beep, horn, chirp, or squeak to keep me from having to look back at my car to see the lights flash. Makes me feel like Bill Lumbergh from
Office Space
.

Re: Mmmmmm, yeah...
You know - if there were separate lock and unlock buttons like on my Audi/VW keys it wouldn't be that big an issue.
I just find it amusing that you can't program these cars as easily as I can my S4 or our Touareg or any of the Audi's I've had before it with my Vag-Com.
Yeah I agree with every other remote I had separate lock/unlock buttons you could just hit lock like 3 times for the piece of mind of knowing it's locked.
so I went out to the garage last night to see what it actually sounds like if you press lock witht he glove box open... one quick and simi-muted beep from the horn... Funny thing is, the car does not car if the window is left cracked... I keep the window cracked with my
battery
maintainer plugged in over the top of the glass when it is parked in the garage.
Is this only for boxsters? B/C the windows would be down if the top is down? Or is this true for
Cayman
as well, can you leave the window down with no beep when locking? Just does not seem to make sense if the car beeps if the glove box is open, or one of the trunks are open, but does not care that the window is wide open...
