I have a Smart Top fitted because it gives me one-touch operation, so as I am driving out the garage or reversing back and forth out of a parking space I don't need to keep my finger on the button.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi guys, is it possible to adjust/modify anything to allow the hood to be lowered/raised without engaging the handbrake? Ta.

POST 2Original post

You need a smart top. There's a few links on here about them. I fitted mine a few months ago, its superb. Got it on ebay for £160. I think new ones are about £260ish. You'll be able to open/close the roof up to 25mph with one short press of the roof button and the rear windows will also work when the roof is down.

POST 3Original post

In My 996 C4S Cab 2004 I can operate the roof at upto 30 mph Is this a later revision :?:

POST 4Original post

Mine is a facelift too and can operate up to 30 mph. The earlier cars have weaker roofs. Even the later one can be damaged by opening at that speed, your roof is like a huge kite and if its windy then ........ I have a Smart Top fitted because it gives me one-touch operation, so as I am driving out the garage or reversing back and forth out of a parking space I don't need to keep my finger on the button. Another neat addition is the fact I can put my rear side windows up with the roof down, which in my opinion really improves the look. I got it from WrightTune and was £311 with VAT fitted.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hmmmm. I definately cannot operate it if the handbrake is not engaged. I do fancy one touch operation though.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ok. Thanks for the help guys. This is top of the wish list; http://www.design911.co.uk/fu/pt199...96-C2-3-6L-09-01-2005/SmartTop-Control-Units/

POST 7Original post

There is a mod that will allow you to lower or raise the hood without needing to be stationary, in neutral and with the handbrake on. I've done it on my Boxster 896 S and I suspect that the 996 will be the same so have a look. This is the link http://www.boxa.net/forum/index.php...p=547442&hl=smarter&fromsearch=1&#entry547442 It's pretty easy to do and it works! BTW - I am lurking here as I am selling the Boxster with the veiw of getting a 911 probably a 996. Graham

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Graham! And good luck with the sale. It seems i need to register to view the post, so hang on...

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So for a Boxter you have to earth pin 15 by joining it to pin 22 so it thinks the handbrake is up. Interesting.
