I'm looking to replace pads and rotors and I would like to stick with something thats offered on fcp euro due to to their parts replacement warranty. This leaves me either the zimmerman rotors and textars pads combo (which is close to oem) or the sebro rotors and ds2500 pads. Anyone have any experience with the ds2500 pads? I'm guessing they produce more brake dust but is it easy to clean off and does it cause any corrosion? how is the brake squeal if any? My car is mainly used for fun roads and a little bit of dailying so if anyone has some input please let me know.
Also willing to consider any other pads if anyone has any recommendations for street pads, thanks.
I have Sebro / DS2500 on my car. They're dusty for sure, but I've let it sit for months at a time without any corrosion.. The front set tends to squeal a bit, that may be the slotted rotors though, as the rears and the previous front set I had used with the OE style drilled rotors are quiet. They pretty much behave like an OEM pad in terms of the friction curve, it just doesn't drop off at 800 degrees.
They don't have backing shims to insulate the caliper pistons, so I highly recommend good fluid.
what does the lack of shims do and how does good fluid help?
I'd probably steer folks away from any sort of track oriented pad like the DS2500 unless they
really
take it to the track. To me, the tradeoffs (noise, dust) are not worth it. I don't know anybody who drives a car on the street in any matter that even approaches a small fraction of what is done on track. At least not without putting lives in serious danger. Track pads don't work "better" on the street. They're meant to provide fade resistance over extreme, repeated braking.
For the street - get street pads. The stock pads (or equivalent Textars) are known, good solid pads. I find them too dusty for my own taste, but they're good otherwise. If you're not stuck on FCP, then the whole world of pads is open to you. For spirited street driving, our cars are light and pads last a pretty long time.
I think that's making it sound like they're more than they are, the DS2500 are basically an OEM pad with a high temperature rating. I'm on my 3rd set now and they are much happier on the street.
"Looking for break recommendations?"
best advise I can offer you is
don't
- don't break anything, it will be very expensive for you to replace...
Unlike others, I highly recommend the DS2500's, I thought they were great with my stock
987.2
CS rotors. My butt-o-meter felt a significant increase in street braking (and track) performance with no squeal and only a slight increase in dust. I drove 35k miles on stock brakes (breaks
and didn't realize what I was missing until upgrading the stock pads. The trade off is cost, and they wear fast on the track (I destroyed mine after 4 days at the track-bout 16 sessions). I am now running the DS1.11's, but can't comment on the longevity yet, my first track day is friday. So far they feel like another step above the DS2500's but are even more expensive and squeal like you read about. Go with the DS2500's you won't be disappointed
did you use them with the sebro slotted rotors?
