Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1Original post

Recently bought my first Porsche. It’s a 2008 Cayman 2.7 manual. Last couple of days I occasionally get a “squeal” on starting up the engine. Would I be right to have the starter motor checked out? Or could it be something else. Appreciate any response. Ta!

POST 2Original post

Belts? Like a fan/serpentine belt squeal? Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk

POST 3Original post

Yeah. Could be belt of course. Sorry. Not very practical as you might guess.

POST 4Original post

It's a classic description of what that sweet little 2.7 exhibits when it needs a little attention to the belt or the associated peripherals. You could remove the engine cover behind the seats and be very up close and personal with the motor start. Besides, nothing like a visual of the belt and tensioner and general overview of the components. Easy to do and will be the equivalent of opening the hood Porsche style. POST 5Original post

I'm not saying this noise isn't your serpentine belt, but if this noise only happens when you start the engine it could be the spigot on the starter motor not disengaging from the crown wheel as the engine starts. That makes the starter motor spin up to engine RPM briefly, and it doesn't sound pretty. Usually best to just fit a new starter motor, like I did.

POST 6Original post

I also know that sound and it indeed is a bit of a nasty sound, but I describe it as a dry spinning sound rather than a squeal. Still we all use descriptions that can overlap and you might be right. Good call. Although my starter only exhibits that anomaly rarely. I've procrastinated replacing it until it notice it happening more. Sent from my SM-G988U using Tapatalk
