Morning All
I have a
2011 Boxster S
and when I try to use the horn it sticks wide open. A few panicky pounds of the steering wheel corrects the problem but this is certainly not a good fix. I have heard that lack of use of the horn can cause this problem. Does anyone know any easy fix.
Thanks

I just developed the same issue with a sticky horn on my
2011 Boxster S
.
DocBox did you get your horn fixed and if so what was the diagnosis?
I dropped by the dealer and ask service manager if this was a known issue and he said it wasn't. He gave me a very rough estimate to fix from 350 to 650.
I have two questions:
1) Can any one offer advice on how to replace the horn button? I assume it may be a weak spring?
2) Where is the relay in case I can't stop the horn from beeping?
I going to use silicone spray around the button to see if that helps.
Had my horn on my 2012 CS replaced three times under warranty, the last horn which is still working is an
Audi
unit, for some "unknown" reason
987.1
. And .2 horns are notoriously unreliable, my SA said after a few times they pop in an
Audi
unit, he told me PAG knows about this and it was revised in the
981
series, I'll be honest I miss the higher pitched
Porsche
sound, my car sounds like an
Audi
, not that there's anything wrong with that!
I have not gotten my horn fixed yet. However given the information about the known problem I will call on the dealer since my
Boxster
is under cpo
Thank you all for your comments

I had my '11
987.2 Cayman
's sticking horn and broken low tone fixed under warranty last year at about ~40k miles, no questions asked.
Hi all
Went to the dealership last Saturday and it turns out my airbag assembly was not set back correctly. Mechanic remove it and put it back the right way and the horn works fine now. No charge.
Thanks everyone for your responses

Okay. There's a
Porsche
service instruction for this problem, SY905049 which also references SY3215. "Eliminating symptoms in body interior: Reworking actuator for horn (Button for horn sticks when actuated / SY3215)"
I've tried to find these service instructions using Google, Startpage, and Duck Duck with no results. Our friendly service advisor gave me a paper copy.
Anyhow, the remedy is to replace the two springs behind the airbag module with stronger springs Porsche P/N 9P1-419-357
- about $10 apiece. Also the Instruction requires lubing the four grooves that engage the four guide rails in the steering wheel hub with a special "Krytox" grease.
Previous advice to make sure the airbag wires are properly tucked out of the way when reinstalling the airbag module is also important.
I solved the problem when my horn wouldn't stop blowing with my special wheel center cap removal tools that I keep stowed under the edge of my driver side floor mat -- two of the larger heavy gauge paper clips with one leg straightened and with the tips about 3/8" bent over to make a right-angle shaped hook. Use the two hooks to pop the airbag / horn button out to its normal position. It's at least a temporary fix before some irate SuperTrumper takes a tire iron to your car when your horn won't stop blowing.
I hope this is helpful.
