Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Since in frequent several forums and FB pages, I'm not sure where I read a suggestion for Techron for cleaning injectors. I purchased my '99 late last summer, and trying to rev it, found it falling on it's face about 5200 rpm. I put the bottle of Techron in, filled the tank and started driving. I haven't pushed it until today and ...it ran right on up to redline, no problem. I'm generally pretty skeptical about fixes in a bottle, but this one seems to work. Even more amaingly, I've only run it down to just under three-quarters of a tank. So, going forward, I suppose I'll be making an occasional habit of putting in a can.

POST 2Original post

Two different E.P.A certification engineers told me to put nothing but Chevron supreme fuel in the new cars we built at Shelby American & Saleen Mustang. 1999 Shelby Series 1 & 1994 Saleen SR351. I have never had a fuel problem since then & no need to use additives.

Unfortunately, that is not an option here. I do stick with Tier 1 fuels though, Shell or Sinclair. The Sinclair is at least ethanol-free!

POST 4Original post

Quotes source post: 597300

Same here, no Chevron or Texaco gas stations near me. I do the same thing as you, I get ethanol-free gas from Quick Trip.

POST 5Original post

If the injectors were performing so poorly that the engine fell flat at 5200 rpm, then they are still performing poorly. The techron might have unplugged them a bit but you can be sure that they still drip, have poor spray patterns, and are out of calibration. The fix in a bottle might help the situation but it doesn't fix the problem. I'd really recommend pulling the injectors and having them cleaned and calibrated. You'll be truly shocked at how much better an engine runs after having this done. And if you haven't replaced the fuel filter in awhile, I'd do that too. You'd be amazed at how dirty even good gas is these days: http://986forum.com/forums/boxster-general-discussions/70474-dont-forget-replace-fuel-filter.html Here is the report on my fuel injectors that I recently had cleaned/calibrated. The engine ran fine but seemed just a little low on power.

POST 6Original post

Tom, what do they charge to do the cleaning and calibration?

POST 7Original post

between $10 and $25 per injector depending on level of service and where you go

POST 8Original post

Quotes source post: 597305

+ 1 on RC Yes, the difference is amazing (very smooth running engine), also RC Engineering has great service as their turn around time is usually 24 hrs, last time I paid about $25 per injector. .

POST 9Original post

Quotes source post: 597334

Yes I have taken 3 sets there, amazed at how smooth the idle is after cleaning

POST 10Original post

Hum, have a company that sells remanufactured OE Bosch injectors with a 276cc flow rate and $56.58 shipped for all 6 injectors.

POST 13Original post

Quotes source post: 597357

Hmm. They seem curiously inexpensive. The posting says, "Re-manufactured.We remove all part number message of eBay policy. ". All OE injectors have PNs on them. I'm guessing that they don't have any part numbers because they are knock-offs (eBay won't allow real PNs on non-OE parts). Here is what my OE injectors looked like with the PN's clearly visible:

POST 14Original post

So what would be the downside of buying these?

POST 15Original post

Quotes source post: 597363

Having to replace second-rate parts for OEM. Buy cheap, buy twice.

POST 16Original post

Quotes source post: 597367

How do we know these injectors are second rate parts?

POST 17Original post

We don’t know, but they are so inexpensive as to be suspicious. Why don’t you buy a set and give them a try?

POST 18Original post

Quotes source post: 597413

I don't have an issue with my injectors, car idles and runs fine. If I did buy them and said my car ran better, you all would accuse me of having a placebo effect. How about you buy them and let us know, since all my experiences are placebo?

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I did indeed change the fuel filter, and spark plugs as well. Now since it only has 56k on it, do you really think the injectors need rebuilding?

POST 20Original post

Quotes source post: 597455

If you used Techron ,changed fuel filter, and plugs all at the same time there is no way of telling which of the three (or combination of) fixed the problem. Now a reason your injectors "MAY" need cleaned: Is the low miles and a 99. It has sat for long periods of time so your injectors "MAY" be a little gummed up from setting. But it could have been a Dirty fuel filter and your injectors are fine
