Ibooked a Cayman slated for Apr/May 06 delivery. As a first-time Pcar owner, dealing with which options to include can be mind-boggling. To make matters worse, Stuttgart Auto (distributor of Porsche cars in Singapore) included some options in a 'package deal' of SGD330,000 or USD200,000 thereabouts. Yes, car prices are ridiculous here and you can only own a car for ten years.... I digress...
On 3 separate occasions, I enquired about the rain sensor / auto dim mirrors option and was told all 3 times that it was not necessary - bird droppings will even activate the rain sensor was the advice I got. However, driving home one drizzling, then rainy night, I find myself having to fiddle the wiper stalk too often and wanted the option to be included. I was told I was too late! I pressed on further and was told that the Porsche factory can retrofit it to my car, causing a delay of one to two months! To make matters worse, I was told to call the manager if I wanted to bring this further (the last time I checked, I was the customer!)!
Learned brothers, is there any truth to what I was told? How do I check if my car is really already in the build process? I am facing the sole andincompetent representation of the brand in Singapore and it's really frustrating me no end (this is just one incident). I have laboured and am finally able to cough up USD200000 for a car and expect service rendered toequate with the price paid / esteemed brand. But it's not happening! Please tell me how I can get this irritation fixed. Much thanks!
Very sorry to hear about your problems - I agree, when one pays this much service should be top of the line - I can't speak to what procedures you can use, but here, the one and the sure way of solving problems is to take your business else where ie. find another dealer. This might not be an option for you, so the next step would to be take it to the sales manager if that does not work, owner of the dealership, after that a Porsche rep. for your area. We have a number of dealers here, and maybe they could be of some help. In any case all the best and I hope your dream car will be just that - perfect /fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/thumbsup.gif
Cancel the deal and pick up your Caymanin Hong Kong?
I really wish I knew a way to help you, this is very sad indeed. I would go to the top of the dealership for sure and contact a Posrche rep for you area. I hope someone else here that is more in the know can offer you some good options.
Good Luck! Russ
Find out for sure what the build code is - The "I can't change it" could well be the first response - not the real response for a May delivery in Singapore.
Even if they have started with the car, a fax from the dealer could possibly get it changed at this date.
Please try again, preserver and lets us know the status. I tell you I believe it is possible.
Champwhite...sorry to hear of your experience. As a fellow singapore resident, we all know cars are expensive but thats life and offset somewhat by stupidly low income taxes etc. Also so all readers are aware, cars can be owned > 10 years but need to pay I think circa US10-15k to renew another 10 year permit. Also govt has a guaranteed buy back price for vehicle after 10 years which is probably equivalent to the price of a new US cayman so alls not that bad. Anyway I digress...the sole distributor should be looking after you regardless of price and I knowPorsche Asia Pacific is HQ in Shenton way and I personally know the marketing director and they are passionate about customer satisfaction and VERY VERY passionate about the cayman so I suggest you look them up and have a chat to see if they can assist you.Hopefully common sense prevails and all involved (ie you, dealer and Porsche Asia Pac have vested interest in you being happy so should be easy sort out if reasonable and talking to right person. Interested to hear how your chat goes
Cheers
Philip, thank you for the heads up. I did not knowPorsche Apac isin Singapore and have been banging my head against the wall with Transeurokars, the only (sigh...) distributor in Singapore. My deposit is paid and they are saying there's a penalty for withdrawal... seems like I am stuck!
I wrote an email to the MD of Transeurokars today. Do you happen to know who I can address a copy to? Much appreciated.
Haha! Thanksto all for your suggestions, even the funny ones.... btw, HK launched later than SG, and I heard the queue for the car is outrageous!
Henrik Dreier - AP Marketing Director. Sorry dont have address other than knowing office is in Shenton. Good Luck. Surprised to hear deposit penalty given queue
Hi All. Just to give you an update - I have decided to cancel my order. No car is worth the extremely unpleasant experience I have been subjected to.
I received a call from the Sales Manager and he explained that the sales person has conveyed his message wrongly. My car (booked in Aug 05) was ready and they are unable to send to P Exclusive to getthe rain sensorretro fitted so they will order another car for me with all specs I wanted with rain sensor but I had to delay for 1 to 2 months. I was fine with that as I really made my mind up about the rain sensor.
So the sales person sms me the next day (no call?) to say my new contract was ready. Not wanting to be a sucker for the 2nd time, I queried what happens if I were to be dissatisfied with her service again, would I get a refund. She promptly replied that she will proceed with the refund!!! No service recovery! It's like she was waiting for me to say the magic words! WOW! I didn't know the agent for Porsche sells so many Pcars here that they can turn away my business.
So that's the last straw. I emailed to the Manager again complaining about the service (and I said I didn't want to blame anyone, just the full deposit back) and guess what? It's been 2 days and no one has responded to me.
How's that for service? The car is great but I cannot justify paying for it if I were to be treated in this manner. It's totally ridiculous! Philip, if you do meet Henrik, pls let him know. Thanks.
I really enjoyed myself and share the whirlwind excitement all of you have generated about the car and the only regret not getting the car is to be like one of you Caymanguys in this great forum. KmanS, you have been great putting all this together and RussK, it's always fabulous reading your posts.
I am so sorry to hear that. I guess I didn't realize how lucky I have been with my dealer. I sure hope you can still get a Cayman, it is an experience that you should not be denied.
Good Luck Russ
