if it was the rear then i would say 90% sensor as the front harness is known to fail .

I guess change the n/s/f sensor and hopefully job sorted if not then I've gained new sensor and eliminated to wiring thereafter.

Leading evidence: 'rear' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'rear' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace n/s/f sensor and hopefully job sorted if not' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.

if its intermitant then it will be a tough job proving the wiring is faulty without haveing replaced the sensor .

Temp gauge has been working fine ever since using the CETEK!

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Evening all! Prior to my battery loosing charge I had an intermittent fault with the temp gauge not working (which I was hoping to be the temp sensor). My battery failed due to lack of use and I recharged and then invested in a CETEK conditioner which is great, but now.. PSM/ABS light has been coming on since battery failure - code read it and comes up as N/S/F speed sensor line.. Temp gauge has been working fine ever since using the CETEK! Can anyone shed a bit of light regarding battery/symptoms of failure or are these items more likely to be coincidental? Appreciate any feedback as always

POST 2Original post

First of all .. have you cleared the codes and actually driven it to prove there is a permanent fault since the battery went flat ? If you havent then do that first .. If you have then it would seem there is either no signal or a poor signal from the wheel speed sensor n/s/f . The sensor is the usual fault but it could also be a break in the wiring. I just find it curious it has happened after a flat battery . Hmm .. no mice in your garage is there ? seen a few incidents of mouse damage recently .. even one car that lives outside .

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi Demort. Yes I cleared the fault code and it has come back. I haven't had a chance yet but was planning to swap the sensors sides over to see if the same fault re-occurs at the O/S. Is there anyway that an intermittent temp gauge could be caused by a poor battery health? - seems odd to me that this previous issue has now 'cured' itself since I have been permanently maintaining the battery!

POST 4Original post

Temp gauge ... Well i guess its possible .. ive seen some strange things over the years .. off hand i would have said no but it is voltage dependant . Just keep an eye on it for now i would have to say . ABS .. You might find removing one sensor is a mission let alone two ! Have a go on the bad side first though . They sieze in , and drilling is a nightmare .. metal core in the sensor that snaps drill bits . At work then i would scope the sensor to prove it , thats not a normal bit of kit for the home user so perhaps do it another way .. If something is £100 or less then to me thats an hours labour give or take .. if its going to take me an hour to prove if something is faulty ( or longer ) then i just replace it . If its not that then the customer gets a new sensor .. if i spend the time to diagnose then the customer pays the same but doesnt get a new sensor . Basically .. find out the cost of a new sensor .. its either the sensor or a break in the wiring harnes .. if its intermitant then it will be a tough job proving the wiring is faulty without haveing replaced the sensor . If its a permanent fault then its a case of disconecting sensor and abs cu plug and an ohms check . Just to make it interesting .. i would say 50 / 50 on sensor / wiring harness .. if it was the rear then i would say 90% sensor as the front harness is known to fail . Hopefully you understand my inept answer

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

.. Yes understood! Thanks for narrowing the odds :thumb: I guess change the n/s/f sensor and hopefully job sorted if not then I've gained new sensor and eliminated to wiring thereafter. Good advice. The Temp gauge yes agreed it's strange and maybe a coincidence or something else as would (previously) always not work, red warning light etc and then would either jump up to about 70 or turn ignition off, restart engine and would display correctly on the gauge. Now after having battery go flat, recharged then CETEK plugged in to maintain - no such problem at all. Temp gauge seems permanently fine! :dont know:
