Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that suspect a cause
1
0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Leading evidence: 'better way' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'better way' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace front latch all work is done' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I used to use the little storage door under the front of the passenger seat.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Outcome without a verified action link
died last year, the cable did not work for me either.
Hi
I am stuck.
Frunk does not open with either key fob or interior switch activation.
Rear trunk works with ether.
Battery
is fine, car starts and runs.
I can hear the actuator cycle with either key fob or interior switch activation.
Tried to raise Frunk with large suction cups while cycling - no joy.
Tried pushing down - no joy.
Seems like there should be a spring pushing up on the lid but it lays flat.
Seems like the manual opener is not a good option.
Opinions, thoughts?
Thank you all, Howard
Apparently there is an emergency release cable. See this website for details:
http://www.pedrosgarage.com/Site_5/Worst_Case_Scenario.html
My car is still in storage for the winter and I haven't actually looked for or found this cable on my car but it is on my list of things to do this spring.
Zuch
Thanks but this covers, and not well for the 987, the
emergency release cable
however my battery is not dead and the actuator is active. But the Frunk will not open.
I will try the emergency cable tomorrow but I have my doubts. I will let you and others know what happens.

My locking lug nut tool is now in my glove box for just such an emergency. I have heard that you can get to the cable by turning the wheel but I have not tried it myself. Job 1 this spring is to extend that cable to somewhere I can get at it!
Update: I removed the wheel with a borrowed security lug, removed wheel arch liner, pulled emergency release. Cable pulled out about 18 inches. Did not release the latch. Clearly the locking mechanism is broken.
Looks like I will have to cut through the front trunk lid or bumper cover to get in. At this point don't know which one has access to the mechanism??
BTW bumper cover has fasteners below the trunk lid so you can't just remove the cover.

When my
battery
died last year, the cable did not work for me either. It was wrapped around the wire harness and that kept it from working. There are bolts behind the carpet in the trunk that look like they hold the latch. A hole in the hood would get you there. I will not swear that is all there is to it. Before going caveman on the hood, post up on
pelican parts
forum in the 997 section. A 997,
911
hood should latch the same and there are way more 997 guys out there than 987. There is probably a better way to get in.
Here is a picture with the front bumper off, unfortunately I don't think that is your way in. To remove / replace the front latch all work is done under the frunk. Sorry the picture isn't better. It is from a year ago when I was cleaning out my radiators. The car is still in storage so I can't get you a better one.
I assume you already tried pushing down sharply on the hood over the latch a few times (with a cloth over the emblem to prevent damaging the hood)? It sounds like there are bigger issues, but if things are bound at the latch, this can free them up.
regarding where to store lug keys, roof rack keys, etc. I used to use the little storage door under the front of the passenger seat. Whether you have that storage area or not depends on the year and the seats.
Access to the lock mechanism cannot be gained through the trunk. At least on 2007CS. There are two 6mm studs welded to the trunk wall that hold the lock in place and permit adjustment of the lock up/down so the deck matches the fenders and bumper cover. as you said, you cannot take off the bumper cover because there are 2 or 4 bumper cover fastening screws under the rubber trim which is covered by the deck. Nice huh? If you have to cut a hole in the bumper you may want to get a trim piece from the 2010
GTS
bumper. The previous owner tried to make my car a
GTS
look alike. Fortunately for me this piece is removable which gave me access to the lock. Once you can feel the lock the part you need to move is the lever attached to the release cable that goes out to the left front wheel well. You can feel it but not see it. Another nice huh! Hopes this helps.
Oops, sorry guys, The two 6mm bolts are accessed through the trunk. The lock mechanism can be removed after the rubber trim piece is lifted up. Lots of help I've been. The part about manually operating the lock is correct.
Given you've mentioned going thru the frunk lid, did you really give the ecable a go? Good suggestion above to put some pressure on the lid whilst the electric or cable options are exercised. Exercised really vigorously. Can you force some lube in via the spray lube
red straw? Hard to imagine catastrophic latch failure. Good luck of course and apologies if you're ahead of me.
You've probably tried this already, but just in case: Could it be that the
battery
is just a little weak, the voltage just a tad low? Couldn't hurt to hook up a charger to the fuse box terminal, dial up max safe voltage, and try the electric latch.
To all of the helpful members here,
A local indipendant shop, Schneider Autohaus in Santa Barbara, was able to get the frunk open. They apparently removed bolts from the bumper cover and were able to get to the lock in the blind. Having another P-car near by they were able to spring the lock in the blind with a pick. I was at work and was just happy to have it opened without body work.
Thank you
all for your great support!!!!!!!
