Hopefully not a completely stupid question but if it is I am a new
Cayman S
owner (2007). Just looking at the front brakes and noticed that is has a different shape wear sensor as compared to the brake pads I purchased (didn't know there were different types available). The ones on the car are the flat style with the rounded end. The brake pads I have take the round pin / cylinder type. Can I just change the sensor to match the pads or do I have to return the pads.
I've done brake jobs on my
911
and
Cayman S
. Both times I've tied off the sensors (and wrapped them in electrical tape to prevent water penetration) and tucked them up out of the way.
Should replace sensors when doing pads anyway as they wear also. I would try to find compatible sensors and if not return the pads and buy sensor and pads together. I guess as mentioned above you could just tie them off and watch the pad wear manually....
I bought the pads from Pelican and they were listed for my car. Didn't realize the sensors were different until I pulled the wheel off. I went back on Pelican and checked the pads and they do show a sensor that fits the pads. I will check with Pelican on Monday to ensure the will work with my car. As far as I can tell the sensors is just a basic continuity circuits so as long as the cable fits the port on the car I should be good.
I replaced all my pads with OEM pads and did not replace the sensors, just insulated and tied back the wires as others have done. Since I do autocross and track days, I keep a close eye on the pad and tire wear, so I don't feel like a need a sensor to tell me when he pads are low. I would normally replace them well before the sensor light comes on anyway.

I assume the sensors would only wear if they make contact and trigger a warning. Right?
Contact Pelican, they are really good about returns and can point you to the right sensors. But I too have just tied off the sensors. With some of the high friction pads don't even have holes for the sensors.
