I'll say this about the Akebonos- I cleaned the wheels really well when I installed them 3 weeks ago.
Leading evidence: 'Clean wheels really well' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Clean wheels are staying' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
I put them on myself and very happy, especially with how clean the wheels are staying!!

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Just wanted to update everyone on a brake job I did with my friend last weekend. We put on 4 new Meyle rotors from ECS Tuning and Akebono Euro Ceramic pads that I got on ebay. Along with fluid, total cost for parts was right around $330.
Not counting some Abita beer
Brakes perform great and pads stop car very well. A tad less cold bite than the Textars but once warmed up, no complaints at all and no fade. I also have not washed the car since then and virtually no brake dust. Obviously the rotors aren't Zimmermanns but we will see how they hold up. Most places have the Akebono pads for around $100 per axle but you can get them much cheaper if you look around.

Interesting, I had those on my MB S550 and regretted getting them. The car could not lock the wheels if life depended on it. Very linear response in brake feel but ultimately overall stopping power and bite was probably half of OEM pads. For regular driving was fine if you start applying brakes a tad earlier, but if you had to do a panic stop, it was scary.
My wife's CLS500 also has these pads and aren't as bad as my S class was, but still the bite and stopping is not as good as it can be. Both cars had new rotors and brake fluid...
So i'm not even considering them for the Porsche.
This doesn't sound right. Like the above poster said, ABS shouldn't let you "lock the wheels" under any circumstances. Does slamming the pedal down trigger any abs pulsations (usually towards the last bit of braking)?
If not, you have a bigger issue than brake pads. Ceramic pads can have different feel and fade properties than what you're used to, but any brake pad can handle a single panic stop with no drama and very minimal stopping distance differences.
Yes ABS worked fine. No issues before the brake job. After the pads and new rotors slamming on brakes at 30mph would just slow the car down rapidly but not produce a single chirp out of tires. I could get the brake pedal all the way in to the floor and thats with good brake fluid. With OEM it would have easily locked the wheels and gotten a few tire squeals and stop faster (yes, with ABS pumping) while pedal being down a fraction of the distance.
Dont know what it could have been, perhaps pads didnt like the rotors, i'll never know. Wifes car same setup and not as good as oem but not nearly as bad as my S class. perhaps because S was so heavy.
In any case, i traded the land yacht for a carrera
I have these, and discovered the hole for the wear sensor is not perfect. My sensor triggered again in the front after only a few months, even though there was plenty of pad left. The front sensors are now tied up, but the backs still fit well. Not a big deal, but I was surprised when I got the wear light so soon. I think I'll try Hawks next time.
I know...I know...
But my wife drives the 996 whilst I'm out flying for days at a time. That sensor turned on a
light
, which my wife reported...
...and I paid for and fixed,
as usual
.
Without a light, my wife would carve the rotors into barbed wire before
she
would notice.
I had akebonos on the front of my e46 bmw for 30k miles. Put textar on rear at same time - new Zimmerman rotors. Fronts still look like new - very light dust- rears are almost worn again now. Yes , cold bite is not as good as textar - but in normal driving they are fine. Not sure how they would do at the track however . No complaints on my textars on my 996 at laguna seca - but ok - I wasn't pushing it like a gt3 ...
Generally the Akebono's will sacrifice a bit of initial cold bite and give a more linear response in favor of improved fade resistance. Textars generally seem to be the opposite on BMW's. On Porsches though the stock Textars actually do pretty good against fade resistance but still emit a lot of black dust.
I'll say this about the Akebonos- I cleaned the wheels really well when I installed them 3 weeks ago. Still look just as clean,
almost no dust after 250 miles of city driving.
WIN
Anyone have any idea how long these should last for? I sometimes hear a little bit of a grinding noise when I come to a stop sign. My OE's lasted 76,000 miles, I have 54,000 miles on these.
I'm okay with the front pads but every time I put in EUR917 it says "doesn't fit your car". I have a 2003 base model Cabriolet. This has happened on three different sites. What do I need for the rear?
You do know that your brakes arent supposed to chirp even when you slam on the brakes right? ABS prevents that. Might want to have a specialist take a look at your car. Might want them to explain how ABS works.
