If you suspect a dying battery and have had your car sitting for a week, I'd suggest that you pop the frunk latch before attempting to start.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

Hi everyone, I own a 987.1 2008 Cayman which I bought second hand with already new battery Its almost 4 years and (the battery) needs replacement cause when charging while mooving the amp looks around 14.5-14.90 or sometimes 15.06 volts. Does anyone knows what kind of battery should I buy?? car code writes 70Ah, any dimensions ??? The existing is a Bosch S4008 74 Ah Thanks you Christ

POST 2Original post

Do you mean the voltage reading is 14.5 - 14.9 volts while the car is running?

POST 3Original post

yes, and sometimes during first 30 minutes of operation goes up to 15.06

POST 4Original post

Your battery could still be fine. If you don't dive your car regularly, the battery may not get fully charged and just getting a trickle charger could bring your voltage down to the 13s. Lots of Porsches are a second car which gets driven infrequently. That's why many of us have a trickle charger. I have a CTEK with a attachment for plugging into a cig lighter or other dc port, and this makes it simple to keep the battery fully charged.

POST 5Original post

thanks for posting your reply so you think that charging voltage around 14.50-14.80 is normal for Cayman 2.7 with NO sport function??

I have a 2008 CS. Before my previous battery change I started noticing weaker and weaker starting vigor over the course of a month or two. I daily-drive my car under fairly constant conditions, so expect consistent battery operation and can detect a degrading battery. You could blow $350 at the Porsche dealer or... I got my last one at Pep Boys. I've heard Walmart carries something compatible too. My brother-in-law (also a 2008 CS owner — runs in the family, apparently) bought a compatible battery at Costco. The costco one doesn't have the vent tube, but you can just reuse the old one from your current battery. In any case, call the place to verify that they have the right battery. If you suspect a dying battery and have had your car sitting for a week, I'd suggest that you pop the frunk latch before attempting to start. The geniuses at Porsche put the battery in the frunk and the frunk needs power to unhook! Trying to start might drain the battery enough further that you won't be able to open the frunk. The 2008 and newer models have an emergency frunk release in the passenger door area; I tried pulling the cable to test and the cable just came out in my hands! Oops! I always carry jumper cables. The reactions I get when helping people jump-start their cars are hilarious.
