I'm disappointed with the amount of dust the factory pads produce but the stopping power is top notch. I am looking to possibly replace all the rotors, and pads and would prefer something more performance oriented with lower dust if possible. I was looking at OEM
Porsche
rotors, Brembo or I have seen Zimmerman coated rotors get some good reviews. I was under the impression the OEMs are Brembo? Does anyone offer a cyro treated assembly for the
Cayman S
, I had excellent luck with these in the past on a Superduty with Ceramic pads, less dust but did require a little more heat to work. FWIW-Already have
GT3
brake ducts, braided hoses and upgraded fluid to install as well.
I will be doing a few DE events during the year but primarily street driving, spirited at times
Original pads are Textar brand. Mine kept the wheels black. I went with Hawk pads. They do produce a little dust but its not black so the wheels do not look so bad.
I spray rims with rim protectant and whips off easily when needed with no harm to rims
In general, the more aggressive pads produce more brake dust. The more brake we use, the more dust we get and a "low dust" pad tends to be low heat range as well so they are not great for track days. Others can chime in on the pads they like but I use Sebro slotted rotors in front, racing pads, and clean my dusty wheels often.
There's no good answer, just some that are better than others. Which side do you want to compromise towards (rotor wear or brake dust). Don't go to race pads for street use - I did this in my younger years, and have watched others believe it's a good idea. It isn't - until you get them hot you have almost no brakes (but, no dust). I was gripping the bottom of the steering wheel with a full leg press on the pedal with no brakes at the end of my driveway... If you happen to get them hot enough to work you rip the heck out of rotors.
Clean and wax your wheels to make it tough for anything to stick to. The dust build up is generally about 95% pad, 5% (being very generous) rotor.
Bosch QuietCast rotors and Hawk HPS pads work well for my DD and produce very little dust.
