I'd leave the plugs in for another year, since you're averaging 20K miles/year, and then replace the coil packs along with the plugs if it gives you peace of mind.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I'm soon to be tackling some of the 60K service items and figured I'd replace the plugs while I'm getting my hands dirty. Although they are not due until the 80K service, the maintenance manual does say 80K or every 4 years, and I'll be just shy of four years.

Should I go ahead and replace the ignition coils while I'm down there?

Thanks for the insights!

Mike

POST 2Original post

I'd leave the plugs in for another year, since you're averaging 20K miles/year, and then replace the coil packs along with the plugs if it gives you peace of mind. I don't think the coil packs are a scheduled maintenance item though. Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk

POST 3Original post

You have to remove the coil packs in order to change the plugs, so you can give them a good inspection while they're out. If they are not cracked, and you're not experiencing misfires, you can leave them be. I'll be interested to hear about the condition of your plugs. I changed mine (2007 CS) at 10 years/50K miles, and the old ones looked fine - clean and dry with no appreciable wear.

POST 4Original post

Racergreg, after your plugs were in for ten years, did you run into any trouble getting them out? I ask because I’m about to do mine.

POST 5Original post

I just had my shop do the 60K service (07 CS too). They did the plugs, but the coil packs looked great and my guy said let them go to 100K. Agree, if the coil packs are clean and crack free, leave them in.

POST 6Original post

Pulled mine out after 9 years and 50k miles with no issue. My coil packs looked fine so did not replace.

POST 7Original post

On my then new to me 2006 Cayman S I had my indie replace the plugs at 32000 and 7 years. Good idea to replace these before they have a chance to seize. Multiple coil packs had cracks, so they were all replaced at that time.
