I only put Esso Supreme 99+ in my RS to avoid any Bioethenol which helps keep the engine clean, however i agree that all highly tuned performance cars should have an annual oil change.

Hi there, I’ve just booked my GT3 in for its first major service and my OPC is wanting to charge £2281 inc VAT for this; seems like a crazy cost to me ? Can anyone confirm what they’ve paid for this service elsewhere ?
I will obviously ring round some other OPC’s / Good indy’s, but wanted to have some back up info before doing this.
Thanks in advance
Yep, going through this at the moment. I was astonished when I was quoted £2626 as 2 years ago it was under £2k for the 4yr service. So a 30% increase in 2 years! However, I've got another quote for £2154 and given my OPC the chance to match it. I think they were taking the piss actually as this is my third car this summer to be serviced there after 24 years of loyalty. Let's see what they come back with.

Interesting was the £2,154 from an OPC ? Thanks

Yes, I asked why such a big difference and they mentioned it was group wide pricing. My OPC said they had fixed price menu servicing which would be similar across the network as its recommended by Porsche. Clearly this is nonsense as the other one said there's a lot of shopping around because of the differences.
That's a crazy amount of money for a 4 year service!
Now Porsche'less these service costs are one of the things that I won't miss! Equivalent service from BMW or Mercedes would be in region of £1,000 absolute maximum.
I have since been advised there's an issue with the OPC quoting system. If they work the price out manually it's correct, however if they press the total button its wrong!! Make of that what you will.
Anyway they're matching the price for me!

I`ll take a wild stab in the dark and go out on a limb and say that they are exactly the same

In the days when there was a fixed price for Participating Centres (to 31.12.19) the 4 year service was £1,395 including brake fluid and plugs.
This definitely rings a bell on my 991.2 GT3. So even at £2,100 that’s a 50% increase - how they can charge £k2 for a days work is beyond me. I wonder what a good Indy would charge - will find out.
Is the 991.2 much different to the 991.1 for service costs?
I don’t remember the 4-year major service being that expensive, but it could be that I’ve wiped it from my mind, given I probably had a warranty extension and new tyres at the same time!

£1,095 at RPM

I can confirm it is not. I was initially quoted £1,900 incl vat for 4 year service on my 991.2 Gts which includes spark plugs and brake fluid change as they are recommended items. Worth phoning around as i ended up paying £1,700. Didn’t bother with A/c service

Just had mine done at OPC Colchester. Just under £1900 including the PCGB discount.
Interesting, mine wouldn't give the club discount.
I’m guessing the profit margins are quite high as Colchester didn’t bat an eyelid when I asked.
For people saying one days labour mine was quoted as two days and they ended up having it for 3 due to an issue obtaining the correct oil filter (or so they said)

They definitely enjoy high margins! Did you have a courtesy car? I don't suppose for one minute that's a factor but it would be worth 10% to me due to my distance from the dealer

Courtesy cars and/or the fact that my OPC will collect/deliver the car despite me being an hour away makes a difference to me, Servicing isn’t cheap at OPC’s but then you go to some specialists and it is not cheap at some of them. I’ve got more leverage (as someone who has bought cars) and have better experience of customer service at my OPC than I do at one highly regarded specialist who people on here generally have very high opinions of.

Unfortunately I had a 21 day ban in March this year due to a speeding offence so they were unable to offer me one.

I'm not a big Porsche fan but Mercedes have hiked up servicing costs recently too and was quoted £800 for a 6 year service on a V8 (no plugs) and don't forget a Mercedes needs servicing every year. Apart from the gold plated plugs there's the golden engine oil which Porsche (and others) will be charging £180 for when you can buy it on line for £70....pure profiteering when they're getting it out of a 40 gallon drum.
Are there any warranty implications if serviced at an indy? Can you keep the Porsche warranty? Would Porsche offer less px value if the car did not have opc service history.

For the extended warranty I believe you have to use OPC servicing.
You wouldn't have the up to date cost of the extended warranty at all, mine runs out next May.Do they have different excess to bring the cost down? Cheers.
Twinfan said:

Correct - Indy service cost virtually 1/2 that of OPC, but OPC have you by the balls if you want to keep your extended warranty- absolute scam
Twinfan said:

I need to re-read my warranty but pretty sure this is not the case. You just have to use genuine parts and service in the same manor. I just renewed my warranty and The car he only had 2 independent services in the book by the previous owner (next due). There was no mention on renewing and also when I got the car I checked into this.

Naughty and not very nice!
No idea on costs as I don't use extended warranties.
It's definitely with checking the small print re. servicing as it used to be the case that renewal could not happen unless the last service was an OPC service and all the correct maintenance items had been done.
As for whether it's a scam/rip-off or not it's basically an insurance product so it's their game and therefore their rules. Simple as that.
Try this.
So assuming warranty is maintained when going to an Indy like 9E or RPM, does anyone think the Indy stamp would put off a future buyer (albeit not anytime soon)?
If I skip the AC I assume that’s not covered by the extended warranty?
Melvynr said:
Looks like you don't need the 111 point check if your car already has a factory warranty or an existing extended warranty.
Yes that changed about a year ago, OPC wasn’t sure if it was because of Covid but appears not.

Two grand for a service is a racket.
This is how I see it:
Jan 2021 you buy a 3 year old GT3 that's seen little use from a franchised dealer, comes with a 2 year warranty.
Jan 2022 it needs a big service for £2200.
Jan 2023 you put a 3 year warranty on the car for £3200
Jan 2024 it needs a small service for £1200
Jan 2026 you sell or start the process over again.
So that's 5 years of motoring in arguably one of the best cars on the planet for just under £7k. Trips to Spa and Zandervort, early morning blasts in the summer, days out to Silverstone and Anglesey, and just the shear privilege of owning a GT3
Then when your 5 years older, you've scratched that itch, your investment may even have risen in value, or maybe you loose a few quid,
Come on, enjoy while we're still young enough to do so..........and we can still buy 99 Ron

Good post and some great perspective. I had a go in a McLaren 620R this summer st Silverstone, absolutely fabulous car. I then looked into maintenance and warranty costs and decided running a GT3 is decent value. What I really don’t understand is why a GT3 is the same warranty cost as say a Carrera S or a Macan !
You guys need to upgrade to a Ferrari. My 812 had a service two weeks ago and it didn't cost a dime. While we were waiting both myself and my son were given a 45min test drive in a Portofino M each !. We were also fed all day on bacon/sausage baps in the morning and unlimited delicious Italian toasties the rest of the day.
In complete contrast my RS is now due its first service and I'm absolutely dreading what they'll charge for it. If we're lucky we'll get a cup of dodgy coffee each
Ferrari spoil you for life and Porsche rip you off for life. It balances out nicely in the end.

Taffy - you’ve got to be kidding - who do think is paying for those tasty treats and the service - there’s a reason an 812 costs what it does - Ferrari depreciation is eye watering - a new 812 will drop you £k100 in a matter of months and a couple of 1,000 miles - a used one will be far less of an issue but I bet you any Ferrari dealer will bid you at least £k35 less than they go onto sell it for - remember bacon baps aren’t for free

I’m enjoying mine plenty thanks , have been for nearly ten years and I hope you do to.
My point is it really doesn’t need to cost that much for what they actually do and the parts consumed. Plus they seem to collaborate on setting the prices too..a racket.
So while I completely understand the sentiment of getting on with our lives I still don’t think it should cost 2k plus to service a car.

The only type of depreciation I think about is what the previous owner lost. in my case I paid £100k less than new invoice for a 1.8k mile 812. I don't lose a wink of sleep worrying about what it'll lose me in the future as the future is yet to happen and might even not happen at all !
I will take my RS to my OPC for a service in the next couple of weeks and It'll cost what it'll cost. I certainly won't be moaning about the service cost as it cost £180k to buy and probably worth another £30K on top. The difference between paying either £1.5k or £2.5k every couple of years for a service is pretty insignificant on a £200k + car and shouldn't enter the equation IMO.
Supercars cost money to keep one way or another and if that leaves a nasty taste in one's mouth then you're better off buying a cheaper car or use public transport.
Me vegetarian ?

I'm pretty sure that you need to carry out your RS service at two years old and not leave it until Spring otherwise it will look like a very late service in your book. I only put Esso Supreme 99+ in my RS to avoid any Bioethenol which helps keep the engine clean, however i agree that all highly tuned performance cars should have an annual oil change. My 812 gets it every 12mths according to Ferrari's 7 year free service schedule.
Can understand getting a service every 12 months if the car was getting used, ie10k miles. What I don't agree with is plugs changed in the GT3 after 4 years with under 20k miles on the clock, that's when it becomes a rip off.
As far as Ferrari servicing goes, a chap over here has an ESpeciale that goes back every year and yet it only has 3 miles on the clock, that's when it becomes bulls
t, however, it still doesn't cost the owner a penny.

I only put Esso Supreme 99+ in my RS to avoid any Bioethenol which helps keep the engine clean, however i agree that all highly tuned performance cars should have an annual oil change. My 812 gets it every 12mths according to Ferrari's 7 year free service schedule.
Not fussed what it looks like in the book as its my car, better not to have new oil just sat in the car during winter months, also put best race oil in also, rather than water oil
Who is advertising gt3rswp wanted in cardiff taff,is it opc,did think of selling mine as not using much.

Don't think its the OPC. I'm phoning them tomorrow to book mine in for a service and I'll ask them if they know. I've seen the advert and he wants one with only 1K miles. I have an idea who it could be as he's just sold a 2018 gen 1 RS and might be looking to upgrade to the WP. The add says £200k but I think yours is worth more than that being a rare PTS and all that...
Unless we get another lockdown like last Winter I'm going to keep mine taxed to use it over Winter, in fact myself and my son are just about to go out in for a quick blast. Kept mine on SORN last winter( Extended Welsh lockdown) and it didn't do the car any good as it needed a few good hard drives to get back to fine fettle.

Servicing a car shouldn't cost £2k, agreed, but when taken in consideration with the cost of ownership it still represents good value.
They are pretty cheap to start with (if you ignore overs, a word I hate) then they depreciate very slowly, and compared to other cars with a similar performance the servicing costs are comparable, or less.
I take my hat off to you for running a GT car for 10 years, but my overall experience has been worthwhile and rewarding.
I am pleased to shelter under the warranty scheme, along with the menu of servicing costs :-)

Try this.
So assuming warranty is maintained when going to an Indy like 9E or RPM, does anyone think the Indy stamp would put off a future buyer (albeit not anytime soon)?
If I skip the AC I assume that’s not covered by the extended warranty?
My first quote is £2,585.60 without air con service.

Didn't realise Esso Supreme 99+ offered this extra benefit.

Second is £3,044.71 with aircon service.
My OPC agreed £2k all in incl decent loaner but reduced it to £1800 because it took longer than a day as agreed due to the aux belt not being delivered in time.

Thanks av185 - that's a bit more reasonable. JZM are around the £1200 mark including brake fluid and air-con. I don't mind paying some OPC tax but £2.5-£3k is a bit much,

Nearly £500 for an aircon service? At the same place or a different OPC?
I was quoted an additional £120 for the aircon service on my 718 GT4 at an OPC recently.

Only if the Esso Supreme 99+ comes from their own refinery Exxon Mobil at Fawley Dorset. North Wales through Cheshire across Northern England, Scotland and Devon/Cornwall come from third party refineries and contain up to 5% Ethanol.

Quote One now down to £2,316.
My quote for a service next month is £2400. its just silly, its the last time I will use an OPC (only this time as I still have 2 years warranty left) At my 6 yrs service i will go indy.

What do they actually for that, it seems a lot?

This was a first quote from Silverstone, they’ve been told to FO. Found another dealer, but the works are nothing special. It’s just profiteering…

My car was in for two days ,although they had to take the bumper off to clear the clogged headlamp washers but that was only an hour or two at most .

Only if they do each part of the job sequentially, surely? I’m sure they couldn’t possibly get on and do the air filters whilst the oil is draining...

OPC techs can't multitask for obvs reasons......

So basically oil, brake fluid, a belt and plugs (the filters presumably take about 30seconds to clip in just like any car?)
Unless access for the belt or plugs is very awkward they’re just taking the mick aren’t they?
What’s a window cleaner do you think?

Agreed. Indie all the way.

It is a little tube of windscreen wash concentrate. Porsche labelled of course!
I wonder why they don’t label the oil as ‘Porsche engine lubricant’

I'm still undecided - giving up the warranty has the potential for costs that far exceed OPC servicing/warranty (~£2,500 per year) - for example, how much is a replacement PADM engine mount?
https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...
I'm also still not clear on mods and the warranty situation - many Youtubers have put JCRs on 718 GT4s - what happens if, for example, a PADM throws an error - "not covered sir"?
Just one point on that other thread regarding water ingress to Porsche lights I believe this is broadly caused by jetwashing so my cars are always cleaned the traditional way and never jetwashed even at OPCs and never had a problem as a result.
Crazy prices, it’s not like they’re tuning carbs and setting valve clearances. Still, in the context of a car that’s going to maintain a value above list for several years, it’s cheap motoring.
Maybe as a courtesy, ask them to swap out the manifold bolts and basically any nut/bolt around the exhaust system as they’ll be half rusted away already.

PADM replacement on a Cayman is around £1300 per side, I expect it's similar for a GT3.
The factory warranty in the first 3 years should cover a car with a replacement silencer as it would be hard to prove that this caused the PADM failure. For the extended warranty, it will depend on the exact wording of the policy but the same may apply but then again it may not. You'd only really know if you have to claim.
You can't have it both ways - want the extended warranty? Keep your car standard.

WOW!!! The £3.5k oil change.

I actually paid less at my OPC the other week than MH did at Reading.
Spoke to Reading - £3k ish. Care to share the name of your OPC?
