Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Bumper is done, the PO had fitted some mesh but not fastening it in place well enough so there was still quite a bit of dirt and leaves in there but thankfully the radiators were in good nick with no signs of corrosion.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all,
Jobs for these jollies are:
1. Remove front bumper to clean debris and check radiators.
2. Sort the rattle coming from the exhaust.
3. Fit new speakers
4. Remove the centre console
5. Be able to play DAB radio via phone.
1 & 2 should be fine but the others I need help with please so if someone could advise or link a help guide I'd be grateful.
3. The door speakers are fine but the ones on the top of the dash have the integrated carrier. What do people do? I can't see an obvious way to modify the carrier or do without it??
4. The console delete seems to be en vogue but I've read about a delete kit. Is this required and does that have to come from OPC, again a guide would be great.
5. Can I get a USB or aux connector to play my phone through the standard head unit? Be gentle with me I'm rubbish at electrics!
Thanks all.
Hello,
Sounds a good set of jobs (I also need to do item 1 - I plan to fit grills behind the bumper, whilst I have it removed).
Re job 5 - what head-unit do you have now? My 2002 996.2 has the PCM1 head-unit (with sat/nav and phone). To connect my phone, I have resorted to old-school and am using a cassette adaptor (
https://www.amazon.co.uk/IOMAX-Car-Cassette-Adapter-Black/dp/B001AZKRQ6
).....apparently you can disconnect the 6-disc changer (in the Frunk) if you have one and connect a bluetooth receiver in its place. I haven't bothered, as I don't listen to music much in the Porsche.
Am sure others with more knowledge will be along shortly......
Cheers
Ben
Thanks Ben,
Bumper is done, the PO had fitted some mesh but not fastening it in place well enough so there was still quite a bit of dirt and leaves in there but thankfully the radiators were in good nick with no signs of corrosion. Mesh now firmly in place and all nice and clean so I'm happy with that job. I think I'm going to buy a sticker front plate to try instead of the holder.
I've tried a couple of the cassette thingies but I've always been disappointed with the sound quality and with my new speakers I'm wanting something better. I like the sound of the Bluetooth gadget as I don't use the cd's much so I'll see if I can find one of those. Mine is an 02 .2 as well but no satvav or phone just cd and cassette.
3. The door speakers are fine but the ones on the top of the dash have the integrated carrier. What do people do? I can't see an obvious way to modify the carrier or do without it??

I did this last week, took me about 3 hours in all but as I have a 996 I also replaced the rear speakers (mine only has dash and rear speakers with no tweeters).
I bought 4 x Alpine SPG-10C2 from Ebay for £77:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Alpine-SPG-10C2-4-10cm-Coaxial-2-Way-Car-Speakers-180W-/400662919159

As others have done, I had to completely remove the connectors from the original mount mount as the Alpines wouldn't sit centrally otherwise, and they only have c.1mm overlap with the old months so I had no choice. I used Superglue to attach the Alpines to the old speaker mounts.
It sounds a lot better, but they are only 10cm speakers so it is never going to be fantastic - you'd need to add a sub to really improve the bass.
Perfect, just what I'm after. Now I know there's no going back I'll get cutting.
I've bought some JBL GT7's, 4's for the dash and 5's for the doors. The dash speakers weren't actually that bad, mine have the tweeters too but the door ones were terrible so anything will be an improvement!
Just a word of warning re. the JBLs and a lot of other speakers. There isn't much depth to mount a speaker in the dash (or rear) - the Alpines are only 43mm deep whereas looking up the JBLs, they are 51mm deep and so may not fit. I'd hate for you to start cutting them and realise they don't fit. That's why I went with the Alpines.
I can understand you reticence re the cassette adaptor - it looks pretty naff..... so I mainly use CDs at moment.
If you decide not to go the route of ripping out the disc changer, you may want to look at a bluetooth fm transmitter.....

I have the Bose speakers in my doors - have to say I am quite impressed with the sound quality. When I did my window regulator repair, I took a door apart. Was amazed at the size of the enclosure that they have managed to fit in around the window mechanism.
You can buy an aux input cord for the standard head unit, plugs in the back & turned on in the menu, worked well for me -
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Becker-Ada...TF8&qid=1522618998&sr=8-1&keywords=becker+aux
Yep you need to remove the head unit & plug into the back, I threaded the cord to the passenger footwell - its a long cord so I can plug my phone in and rest in in the centre console.
Literally a 5 minute job provided you have the headunit key/removal tool (which are £1 extra from amazon I think so worth getting if you don't)
