Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

My friend runs a 9971 Turbo and the ride was pretty much the same as my 9972 C4S, at least until I fitted the TPC Racing DSC module.
Leading evidence: 'Install tpc racing dsc module' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'lot softer than my 987s' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Install tpc racing dsc module' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

My 996.1 C2 isn`t overly harsh at all, probably a lot softer than my 987S with Pasm, even with 108K on the clock the shocks/springs are still within factory spec :thumb:

As a senior citizen myself, I recommend your Grandad goes ahead.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I've just gotten off the phone to my Grandad who is thinking about getting himself back in to a Porsche. He would like to know if the Carrera is a softer ride at all compared to the Turbo? It's been such a long time since I've been in a Carrera I couldn't really give him a definite answer. My initial thoughts though are that they're very similar in ride comfort.
If he goes for for a Carrera non pasm the ride is very compliant not too soft or hard and sits 10mm higher than the S cars.
if he goes for a Carrera S with PASM in regular its very soft and a bit bouncy in sport too harsh and hard and being 10mm lower its going to be slightly harder than the non S .
have a read up on DSC PASM upgrades as they do a module that can be configured to what you want , they are about £1k and most want them quite firm but if you asked for a very soft ride software instal I am sure they would be able to help. try calling Ken at 9E and see what he suggests for a softer set up as they are the DSC distributor in the UK.
is he thinking 996 or 997.1 or 997.2
Your Grandad rocks dude :thumb:
I`ve never been in a turbo
But, your Grandad rocks dude ( I hope that I am that cool when I get older ) :thumb:

A standard Carrera on 17" wheels has a great ride.
The 17" 996.2 10 spoke wheels are also the lightest OE wheels.
Theres a noticeable difference going to 18" wheels.
My car is on freshly fitted MO30 with 18" wheels shod with continental N2's and the ride and handling is lithe and compliant and from memory I would say a better ride generally than my Turbo.
There are lots of variables especially with regard to tyre type and size though.
As a senior citizen myself, I recommend your Grandad goes ahead.
I find my 996 C2 with M030 fine but I am planning to upgrade to Ohlins to improve the ride on the awful roads around London. I've ridden in a car with them and the ride was superb.
My friend runs a 9971 Turbo and the ride was pretty much the same as my 9972 C4S, at least until I fitted the TPC Racing DSC module.
If you want comfy, you need lightweight rims, say 18s, road car tyres (not track tyres) with lots of sidewall, and the comfort seats, and either a tip or a PDK box and the car with the longest wheelbase. And if you want plush, get some à–hlins, and set them to full soft. You might have to sacrifice some body control, though.
He could also just let about 4 psi out of the tyres, as the final comfort measure. Does make quite a difference, but obviously care should be taken not to drive at 10/10ths in that configuration.
Thank you all for you replies.
He's not sure whether he wants a 996 or a 997 yet, I have warned him off a tip as I didn't enjoy it, I don't think he will either as he said he wants a fun car, something which will give him a buzz as he can no longer ride his bikes.
I think my 996 turbo is a very good ride for what it is, he thought it was too firm as a passenger but then it's always a little bit different as a passenger.
I'll pass the info you've all contributed on to him.
I tried that. Made no difference that I could feel (the only thing that works on the local goat track-like south oxfordshire b roads is a 4x4), and it niggled away at my mind that it wasn't 'right'.
As KK says - your grandad rocks!
He could rock even more if he bought himself the collest 996 of them all; i'm referring, of course, to the 996 C4S Cabrioelt...
Tell him its a babe-magnet.

Personally I don't find the Turbo too hard, but it certainly feels a little harder than the standard carreras. When you're driving it, you don't really notice.
Good for him though!
