Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Greetings: I haven't seen any posts on the K&N Air Filter. I read a tech article in Pelican Parts, and noticed that a few people described the install as difficult. I installed the K&N air filter about a year ago, and did encounter some issues. Issues: 1. Rubber tip on the base of the air filter is difficult to fit into the plastic base OEM bracket. The tip is spear-shaped, but the diameter is a bit to large. 2. (Biggest issue) Included screw-type clamp: by far the dumbest idea. 3. Inlet connection of the air filter. Solutions: 1. Rubber tip - need to apply a bit of oil/lubricant. Once the tip is firmly set in the bracket, it is a very secure fit. The bracket that connects to it is then connected to the air assembly structure. NOTE: this prevents the filter from moving in any direction (by design from Porsche). 2. Screw-type clamp: If anybody here has made clamped the filter to the housing inlet on the air assembly, my hat's off to you. This has been the biggest issue most people have encountered, since it's nearly impossible. NOTE: I don't use it, since the bracket does this job in the first place. 3. Inlet connection (filter to air assembly): This task is a bit challenging, since the filter's rubber-ring is not pre-formed to the oval shape of the inlet assembly. You have to squeeze the filter a bit and fit it into place. The K&N air filter is much less restrictive in air flow compared to the paper-media type of the OEM filter, and the change, in my opinion, is heard as well. If anyone is thinking about this installation, keep in mind you need some patience, a flashlight, and a good back. I hope this information assists anyone in thinking about performing this install, and if anybody else has some advice please share it. Thanks!!!

POST 2Original post

I was able to get the screw clamp on but it was really hard. I used a plastic wire tie threaded through the grooves of the metal band clamp to extend it. That will give you just enough length to sneak it around the really tight space of the air box. Has it ever taken me an hour and a half to change a air filter? Not till I put the K&N in my Cayman S.

POST 3Original post

Agreed. I took the clamp apart, (actually my neighbor did). He fed it around the filter then fed it through and tightened it. It seemed impossible before that. I spent about 1.5 hours before that.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
