Leading evidence: 'Use heavy duty version of rhino ramps' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace oil, or do you need one more step' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. Does it raise the car high enough to be able to change the oil, or do you need one more step?

Could leave the top deck a few inches short of the end and make the end stop removable: leave it off and set your trailer ramps on the notch, put it on to have a stop for your garage ramps.

How did you connect all of the boards - did you use glue or screws?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Ok...Been asking questions and gathering info on diy oil changes. This weekend, I built the ramps below. In my opinion, they are easier to use and safer than any of the store bought versions available. What do you guys think? Any concerns?
Very nice looking! It looks nice and sturdy. The problem with other ramps is that they can slide. I don't see you having that problem. My only concern is while draining out the oil, doesn't the car have to be completely level to ensure all the "old" oil is drained?
No problems sliding. The ramps are heavy and long enough to avoid that. I have read varying opinions about the quantity of old oil left due to the slope of the ramps. My take...while there will be some oil left, it will be insignificant as compared to the total volume of oil held by the car.
Great idea, and should be safer than hollow plastic ramps, given that many kinds of wood can withstand compression pressures of 300 psi to 800 psi. The only thing I wonder about is the length of your ramps - your home made ramps are notably longer than the store bought versions. On a positive note, I'm guessing the stepped design should allow a person to back up on to them more easily and gradually. I have low profile Rhino ramps. The're handy, but the angle of the ramp is steeper, requiring me to gun the engine a bit to get enough momentum to get the wheels all the way to the top. A few questions:
1. Did you have any trouble keeping the wheels straight and true while you were driving all the way back on them? Having a wheel fall off the edge would not be fun. also the longer the ramp, the harder to line it up straight with the wheels.
2. How did you connect all of the boards - did you use glue or screws?
3. Does it raise the car high enough to be able to change the oil, or do you need one more step?
Cayman S:
The ramps are long to provide a comfortable surface as the car transitions to the next level. They are really easy to back up due to the fact that the car only rises 1.5" per step. No need to gun the car to go up 1.5".
No problem keeping the wheels straight...I just stopped at each level and had a look. After trying them out, I measured the distance from edge to edge (71") to make it easier the next time. Also, since I used 2 x 12's, there is a good amount of surface area for error.
To connect the boards, I glued and screwed.
The car is high enough to do the job (6" off of the ground from the wheels) but I would probably add one more board for more comfort under the car!!
Nice job. Prob wouldn't last too long in S. FL due to the humid weather - have to build a new one every couple yrs. That would be my primary concern - wood deteriorate over time.
The ramps get the car up 6". Looks to be a bit snug? How high do yours raise the car? I was thinking of adding another board to the bottom for another 1.5"...not sure if it's worth the trouble though??
I'm using the heavy duty version of Rhino ramps. Gray instead of black. Just wide enough for the CS rear tires. And they have a rubber insert under the end so they don't slide. Plenty of capacity for a Cayman or my X5 for that matter. Though there's something about getting under the X5 on plastic ramps that makes me pause.
I have Rhino ramps as well and this does scare me a bit. I still remember, in my younger days, helping my Dad and I accidentally drove over the ramp.
Now what I do is, I jack the car up and slide the ramps underneath. I feel much safer doing it this way.

Nice, but heavy. 50 or 60 lb each if they are, say, 5 or 6 feet long. Not a bid deal if you're leaving them in the garage, I suppose.
Thinking about something similar to use both as garage ramps and trailer ramp extensions. Could leave the top deck a few inches short of the end and make the end stop removable: leave it off and set your trailer ramps on the notch, put it on to have a stop for your garage ramps. works just as well as a set of $300 race ramps.....except they weigh 80 lb more.
