I chose agate grey on my current gt3 as it was the only grey available without pts.

This is my forever car and was thinking of getting paint protection so thought why not get it protected and colour change same time.

The same will be true to these 'liquid' wraps - you'll have backstreet garage jobs that literally just spray a plastidip-like product onto the paint, then you have things like Topaz Skin that use actual paint on top of a clear film, so the finish is as good as paint but can be easily removed if required.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all
I get my car back tomorrow
Currently agate grey.
Love the colour just fancied a change
Without having it resprayed.
4 years old now Iv had it from new.
Most of my previous cars have been black so that’s what Iv gone for.
I’ll post pics of it tomorrow
Got it back last night
Really happy with the job and
the service.
I’m not a wrap sort of person
but this liquid wrap Finnish is
Better than oem and Iv had a few new
Porsches in various blacks over the years

Interested to know more about the process. Such as, what needs to come off the car to do the liquid wrap. Does glass have to come out, etc?
everything stays in place. no need to remove anything.
more's to the point (once quality is assured) what's the projected lifespan (with the amount of detritus on our roads being machine-gunned on the nose of all cars...)

Really? Thought it was doors off, bumpers off, lights out etc as per MRJWW recent video. Looks quite extensive if it’s the same process as that, which makes me think it is quite expensive, but not seen any $$$ numbers yet!
A few months ago I was quoted 5800+vat for a colour change liquid wrap, bumpers etc off. Akin to a full repaint, didn’t see the point so left it at that. I did wonder what the quote would have been though if it was a Ford Focus, but that’s a subject for a different thread…

Yea that sounds quite expensive!
To be done properly things have to be taken off and back on again.
That where it becomes expensive and risky.
I'd rather not have my P & J taken apart as it never goes back the same IMHO.
Some will cut corners to save costs and close up you will be able to see that.
With my OCD its not something I would entertain but its a cheap colour change and tart up potentially and can be cheaper than PPF
My brother had this done to his car and 6 months on it was nothing but trouble! Peeling edges, orange peel and it chipped like plastic too. Terrible product unfortunately. Traditional wraps are way more durable.

As with most things, there will be different ends of a quality spectrum. I've seen wraps that were practically indistinguishable from paint, and I've seen wraps with horrible lumpy finishes and peeling edges.
The same will be true to these 'liquid' wraps - you'll have backstreet garage jobs that literally just spray a plastidip-like product onto the paint, then you have things like Topaz Skin that use actual paint on top of a clear film, so the finish is as good as paint but can be easily removed if required.

I have a quote from them
It's fair to say it's not cheap!
That said they seem a good bunch and from what I've seen of their work it looks great

What about the underside of the frunk, door shuts etc??
I have pics of door shuts that look perfect, fronk was my next question to them
To the other poster above it's factory paint, sprayed over a peelable film
We have been very fortunate and owned five 991 GT cars plus a GT4; colous were Guards Red, Lava Orange, Black, Miami Blue, Lizard Green and finally our present GT Silver RS WP. Wanting to avoid the dreaded gravel rash which plagued our first Red GT3 we decided go down the route of Paint Protection Film which meant that when future cars were p'exed no remedial paintwork was required despite them averaging 9000 miles per year.
When we took delivery of our Silver RS WP we opted for the more expensive option of Peelable Paint Protection Spray due to its durability and longevity .
Ian Litchfield of Litchfield Motors explained the process that was to follow.
First the original paintwork was treated to a professional detail then signed off as being 100% The Carbon bonnet, roof, wings, spoilers and mirrors were then all removed and treated to 9 coats of clear plastic protection spray. At this point Ian asked whether we would like at additional cost a colour change. We opted for Ferrari Blu Corsa Paint. The car was then painted with primer then the new colour applied. All was then topped off with Ceramic Pro. I was a little concerned at the panels being removed though as was pointed out to me the car is Porsche so re-fitment is not a problem. On inspection there is no sign of the oiginal colour even inside the door shuts such is the care that Litchfield took.
It is now nearly two years and 8700 miles since Litchfield completed this amazing transformation and we are still way beyond delighted . Yes in places you can see gravel impact though this has not penetrated the blue paint and certainly not the silver. As far as we are concerned the process will remain for the life of the car. Should a subsequent owner wish to have it removed it can be done revealing the GT Silver paintwork in perfect condition with even the original side decals intact .
Your car looks beautiful!
Gives me confidence hearing others positive views.
Iv had 2 996s
2 997s
And now on my second 991
Which is a .2 manual gt3
My fav colour was seal grey My first 911.
I chose agate grey on my current gt3 as it was the only grey available without pts.
Lovely colour but part of me wished I’d gone
For black.
This is my forever car and was thinking of getting paint protection so thought why not get it protected and colour change same time.
Only been a week so far so good.

I mean this non provocatively: if it’s your forever car, and you like to go with black as a rule (I get it - most of my cars have been grey) then why not get a respray?
