OK...After all my questions and the help provided by all of you very knowledgable forum dwellers, my oil change is complete. Total cost (excluding any tools, etc) was $76.08. The only issue was a bad torque wrench that I had to replace. The car was ramped from the rear at 6.25" on a flat surface (plenty of room to move around under the car). All said and done, I added 8 Qts + 180ml to achieve a full reading on the oil meter. Below are some pics just for kicks!! Thanks for all the help.
**Was looking at my receipt last night and realized that my cost above included 10 qts of Mobil 1. I actually only used 8 qts plus a small amount of the 9th qt. So, the actual cost was $76.08...even better!!!
Very nice $82.75. Makes me wonder why dealerships and shops charge SO much. I am truly convinced I will do oil changes myself now. Thanks for the post.
Yes...the prices I see mentioned for oil changes on here are insane!
How did you reset the service reminder?
Hasn't come up yet...I guess I'll deal with that when it happens!!
Now go to the blackstone website for one of their free Test Kits
www.blackstone-labs.com/free-test-kits
and send in a sample of your used oil.
In addition to the analysis of the oil, here's what they had to say about the oil sample I sent in. my CS had 24K miles and the oil had 6K miles:
SERGIO: Your 3.4L Porsche engine looks great in its first analysis. Universal averages show normal wear levels after a typical 6,000-mile oil run. Considering your longer oil run, it's great to see that most wear metals compare well to averages. Copper is, perhaps, a little high but a mere 2 ppm is hardly worth losing any sleep over. We did a slightly low viscosity. It wasn't the result of fuel dilution and it's not causing anywear, so we're hard-pressed to call it a problem. Nothing else concerning was found. Check back to build trends. This is a nice Porsche engine.
My bad - but well worth it for the peace of mind.
