I watched a video on youtube and it showed the guy disconnected the airbag and then he had to plug the battery back in to adjust the window and set an airbag light

You will want the battery connected to test it all out before putting it back together, as long as you don't have connected battery and disconnected airbag I believe it is fine.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

I bought a uro brand regulator from pelican parts and followed their how too section on removal and install, overall it went very smoothly and would have been faster except for the fact that I did too thorough of a job of cleaning the window before reinstalling it and cleaned all of the marks off the glass I had made for repositioning the glass in the regulator so that took me a couple extra hours to get the glass readjusted properly.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Overall from start to finish it took me about 5 hours
Repositioning the regulator and window is almost an art. It really helps to mark the position of the window glass in the regulator AND mark the position of the window regulator where it bolts onto the bottom of the door. Saves hours of work.
Yes marking the glass and regulator mounting points before disassembly will make the job much easier on reassembly.
Because the regulator replacement seams to be a somewhat common issue there are many good how to's and videos on the internet that make the job fairly easy for the do it your self er.
I didn't find it that difficult to align the glass properly, although it did take time, I just went slow, took my time and everything came out great.
How long did you deal with the issue ?
I won't be able to tackle it til the end of the week but I don't want to risk damaging the motor or having a total failure of the regulator
Thanks
Just avoid using the window as much as possible until you can fix it. Once you notice it's on its way the timing is truly random when it will fail and Sir Murphy's Law demands it fails in the open position...
In my case I purchased the car in this condition but was told it had been like that for quite some time, I drove the car for another 4 thousand miles like that before getting tired of the window not automatically coming down far enough to open and close the door , I would have to push the window down by hand each time before closing the door.
If you've already tripped the airbag light, sadly, yes. If you haven't, there's no need to disconnect the airbag to swap the regulator.
I second Vancouver996 on OEM vs not-OEM. PO on mine replaced both with URO. 5k miles later I replaced both, with OEM.
It's the regulator, just did mine a few weeks ago. Took me just under 2 hours. There is a good video on youtube with step by step. Make sure to disconnect battery before removing airbag, you will have to get the airbag light reset after you are done.
I just did mine a couple weeks ago and my son's BMW on Saturday. The regulator is a "total failure" now if the window is slow or won't move at all. I didn't disconnect the battery when removing the airbag, chances are extremely slim to not at all of setting it off. It's not as hard as it seems. Should take about an hour.

I didn't disconnect the battery or the airbag when I did mine.

I carry a durametric at all times just in case, you never know when you'll need one
.
It seems the only reason to disconnect the airbag is to remove that sticky insulator pad behind the door panel.
Im about half way there, here you can see the cable is all stretched.
That is a sad looking cable. Mine weren't that bad, but I was only at the point where the window didn't drop when I opened the door.
I worked around the plastic liner, that black sticky stuff is nasty!
Starbucks runs are back on.
I used a Dorman regulator, I liked the quality. Hope I don't have to do this again.
I used a piece of paper go check the top gap with the door closed and it seems ok but I can still see a little gap. Should I leave it alone?
Seems like a good place to start. Window (passenger) making a crunching noise on way down. When it first started I had to manually help it back up. I left it alone but had to push it down in order to close the door, Upon closing it did push itself back up into place like normal. Fast forward a few months. I went to address it - window went all the way down (crunching noise) and wont come back up. It tries to but barely gets above the door shell. OEM regulator needed to solve the problem?
Thanks
A brand spanking new Porsche OEM regulator is highly recommended. Figure the cost is part of Porsche ownership. There is no cheating on this one unless you want to do a do over in a year.
Ive had one of the URO units in my passenger aside door for 3 years now. It works well and Ive never had a problem with it. * Make sure you remove the Boxster stop or you window wont go all the way down...
So the windows and sunroof on my car all seem slow to me. I'm a new owner so nothing to compare them to. Does anyone know how long it should take to drop or raise a healthy window with the engine running or can someone time it for me?
Or if the windows seem slow it's just a replace the regulators sort of thing?
Thanks in advance.
I recently swapped out the rear window regulator and learned a funny lesson.
the regulator wheel has a special factory tool that allows you to fix the regulator without replacement, but only the dealership has it. So they end up charging just 300$ for parts but then 1200 for labor.
I went the replacement route and spent 1100 on the entire regulator and only 300 for labor.
it taught me about how to research when the dealership might indeed have access to be able to replace inner-parts that our Indys just may never be able to do.
what is the Boxster stop you are referring to? My regulator has a hole in the rail that looks like something should be in but nothing. Maybe it is this stop you are referring to. Both my regulators look new but make a small crack sound when window tops out or bottoms out. Cables are also tight. Wondering if just missing this stop
As the regulators fit the 9x6 series the top hole at the bottom of the regulator is for a Boxster the lower hole is for the 911 to compensate for the larger windows of the 911
