Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So, I went ahead and did Plastidip on the wheels. From stock gunmetal grey to Matt Vintage Gold. Was just 80 quid over here in Dubai for all 4. (That includes removal when I want to) I have to say, I like it. Anyways, thought I would post in case anyone else thinking they might go Matt Vintage Gold rims.

POST 7Original post

Kinda like it. It's the Plastidip I'm not sure about.

POST 11Original post

That does suit it. It don't see it lasting too long on the wheels though. At least you know gold works before you go for a permanent finish.

POST 12Original post

Thought I would hate it but it actually looks quite good, probably helps being those wheels and a GT3 Do you have pictures of it before as think I would still prefer the alloy finish?

POST 15Original post

Looks mega, was surprised Really cool. How's life with a GT3 in Dubai - how does it cope with the heat? and don't you stress about the standard of some of the driving?! Edited by Oso on Tuesday 7th April 21:38

POST 16Original post

good thread amazing how each subsequent pic has been even better. Do not think you can beat the last pic though!

Hi all, thanks for comments. To answer some questions: It seems pretty durable, its around 30 Degrees most days here and I do park it outside some of the time so it gets hot. I drive the car regularly and give it some and the plastidip has been fine, although it has only been about a month. There is no flaking at all and it isnt peeling. They also give a 3 year warranty, so even if it does then I will just take it back to get redone. Of course, if you curb it then its not covered. I didnt want to fork out a load to paint them. Besides, more fun as you can play about a lot more without changing the colour of the car...which ultimately reduces the value in the long term. Its fine driving over here, 10 times better than in the UK. Ok, Europe as a whole has nice roads which are better, but in the UK its a bloody nightmare in my opinion. There is too much damn traffic, god knows how many man hole covers, volvo drivers, small side roads, different road surfaces, rain...you name it. In Dubai all the roads are new, they are smooth and great surface. No manholes, no rain. We get a little sand from time to time but with the cars on the road it doesnt last long on major routes. I hack it to work everytday and its a joy, very little traffic and whats also nice is the roads are very big/wide and we dont have oncoming traffic. What I mean is, we have a divider in the middle for both A and B Roads, unlike in the UK where 90% of the time on a B road you have a car coming the other way. (Which is dangerous if they lose it as you hit oncoming traffic) The GT3 deals with the weather fine. Generally speaking its 26-30 degress here from Oct to June anyway, the way british summers are when its nice (Rarity). Only in July to Sept is it 30-40 Degress and even then the |GT3 is fine. You dont park your car outside as the aircon takes time to cool the car as everything is hot...just have to park in the shade in summer thats all. All in all, Dubai is a great place to drive. Yes people dont use indicators and are frustrating, but they are everywhere. The roads are certainly safer here. As a biker and a car driver I can say that. (Although if you are a biker you need loud pipe as it helps)

POST 20 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I dont have standard pic of the car, but here is one with standard colour. I prefer the Gold I have to say. Besides, it was like 80 Pounds to do all 4 rims. Job done. Be rude not to.

POST 21Original post

I'd say a good move. I would never paint the standard wheels as they are so expensive, and mess with the originality of the car. Plastidip is a win-win, and your gamble has paid off, they look great!

POST 22Original post

Shocked to say I prefer the gold, though the gold pictures are a much more flattering angles

POST 24Original post

How do you remove the Plastidip? Only thing I'm not so keen on with your Gold car is the existing silver centre. Black would look good or possibly Red. Probably not for me, if I was doing it I'd prefer them painted. I do have a hankering for satin black - the car is currently Carrara White with Titanium wheels and Red centres.

POST 25 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Removing it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vHbXu4R8Zls Yeah, painting is a ballache though..and costs a load of money. At the end of the day, if you are painting original rims it will only lessen the value of the car. If and when I sell it I will just pull it off, job done. On the centres, yeah, its a pain to do centres. I could, but then when you crank them off at 300 NM they will scar. The only issue with centre locking hubs. m33ufo said: How do you remove the Plastidip? Only thing I'm not so keen on with your Gold car is the existing silver centre. POST 26Original post

I was thinking more of you investing in a set of black or red centres rather than Plastidiping your current ones. Was just an idea anyway.

POST 27Original post

my old Silhouette before the alloy refurb - must have been a popular combo in the 80's

POST 28 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes, good idea. I would if I were keeping it like that. Plus want to reduce any big costs you know. Running machinery costs money so I try and save it for maintenance etc. Thanks for the idea though.

Driving in Dubai 10 times better than UK - really? I guess if you get your kicks from driving up and down the 6 lanes of madness that is the Sheik Zayed road then maybe. Personally I quite enjoy hooning around rural Suffolk where there is stuff like corners and scenery. I admit that cars coming in the opposite direction presents something of a hazard but so far the general principle of keeping to one's own side of the road has worked pretty well for me. I have never seen such moronic and aggressively inept driving as I witnessed in Dubai.
