Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ok, I have a 1999 996 C2 with Traction Control on it. If I am driving too fast in a corner, and the rear end of the car starts to come around, the Traction Control kicks in as it is supposed to. BUT If I am at a stop light and it is raining, if I let the clutch go too fast, I get major wheel spin, the Traction Control DOES NOT kick in. AND If I am at a stop light and it is DRY, if I try revving the motor and dropping the clutch to "lay some rubber" the Traction Control DOES kick in preventing wheel spin. The system sounds confused...I have asked my dealer about this and they really don't have an answer. I was wondering if anyone else, experiences this, or if you Viken can help me. Let me know thanks..

POST 2Original post

I'm not Viken but I have a 99 C2 and I'll try and help. First, TC is not PSM. It should not come on in a corner when the rear is sliding laterally unless you are also accelerating very hard. You can drift a C2 through corners all day long and never see the traction control until you get on the throttle heavy to accelerate out of the corner. On most tracks, I only see the traction control intervene on slow corners leading onto the straights, where I am under full acceleration. Second, TC should work the same in wet or dry conditions. It simply is sensing wheel spin and doesn't know what the road conditions are. If you dump the clutch with high revs in the rain, I suspose you could initially be overpowering the TC system and getting wheel spin initially, but you should see the TC warning light come on the dash and the engine should begin to retard until the rears get traction. If your TC system doesn't function this way, I'd take it to your dealer and have them check it out under wet conditions. Karl

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes the TC only comes on in a corner when I am accelrating hard. But the stop light issue is a problem. Dealer doesn't know much at all.
