Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Reported cause
I worked on a similiar modification: the problem is the electrical resistance, LED's do not have enough.
Leading evidence: 'electrical resistance, led's do not have enough' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'electrical resistance, led's do not have enough' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Clean look, i too am looking' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I also installed the philips silvervision turn signal bulbs that really took care of the egg yolk effect while still maintaining the same light output.

I'll bear this thread in mind, I have just ordered HID for mine but on my hunt for these I did find a similar set up with LED's using ballasts but can't remember where, if I find them again i'll update, cheers

Long time lurker I guess, I have had a 987S 3.4 Box since '08 and use the site fairly often for reference although obviously don't post much (at all) and was looking for led number plate lights and Google brought this thread up, never actually noticed how old it was, hello all btw :hilarious:
Outcome qualification: Negation, uncertainty or missing explicit repair resolution overrides the raw extraction signal.
Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
19 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.
Planet-9: 1 discussions
0 evidence records excluded for query context · 1 excluded by outcome qualification · 1 adjusted by outcome qualification.
1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.
Have anyone tried installing LEDs to replace the license plate bulbs?
I did try but it just could not work properly. If I put one LED and one OEM bulb, both will light up. But if I put both LEDs, even the LED that supposed to be working will not light up. I have tried to turn the LED around as instructed, but still to no avail. Also, I dont think the its because of a faulty LEDs as I have exchanged the previous one which I thought to be faulty, but actually not. Anyone have any idea?
I've read posts on this before so I think a reasonable search will get you some hits. I believe the issue is with the amount of resistance that the LED presents is different. Go search and I bet ye shall find!
I worked on a similiar modification: the problem is the electrical resistance, LED's do not have enough. And if you add the proper resistor,
it will get hot enough in a few seconds to melt the clear plastic lens
between the bulb and licence plate. And you don't even want to think about a fried wiring harness. Walk away from this project--our cars are not designed to use LED's.
Yes, what SY987CS mentioned is 100% correct, use the C5W one to the right, they are the ones you are looking for. They work as described and are not the ricer deep blue looking bulbs at all when you install them.
I installed them on mine, in about 5 mins, and the picture that is shown on their website is what you will get when you install yours. All around $20 shipped.
I hope I am not too late to this post.
The other day I installed LED .
This is before....
...and after
It looks very good and the procedure to install was very easy ,even for woman.
I used BREX STICK LICENSE BULB.
It is a little expensive , but I'm sure you are definetely satisfied with it!
Please try!
The bulbs I got from Hoen have the exact same effect and color. You can clearly see it is not the ricer deep blue color. I think it gives it that extra touch at night.
One good thing about the Hoen's is that they are not too bright and will blend in with the rest of your car, so your plates will never look radioactive. to passers by.
Is it me or does that white car not come with any bumperettes at the rear bumper?
I am also having this done too, I am still waiting for the bulbs (not LED's) to arrive from the website in the UK that I ordered them from, powerbulbs. I also installed the philips silvervision turn signal bulbs that really took care of the egg yolk effect while still maintaining the same light output.
I've had LED license plate lights on my CS since last July. Pulled em out of my
M3
before I sold it. It has a similar look to the pictures above - bright, Lexus look (my girl friend has a Lexus and mine are actually brighter). I got mine from an online retailer for about $15 each and they are Japanese bulbs.
My LEDs always did not work properly. Only one would lit up at a time. Maybe because I bought it for only $12 a pair. But when I returned it, the seller always said that it works. I am not sure what the problem is.
Anyway, I have tried the Hoen bulbs but I think that it is not bright and white enough. Just my 2 cents
It's only the USA market that insist on the "bumperettes" everywhere else gets the clean look, I too am looking for led's hence how I found this,
Regards,
Gary
This thread is five years old! Holy cow, talk about snail mail!
Just out of sheer curiosity? You joined in 2009, and this is your first post, on a thread that's almost six years old? Wow, no disrespect, just awesomely curious! This is got to be a record! Like a message in a bottle scenario!

Well Gary! Hello! LOL, it's hilarious! Speaking of LEDs I've thought of changing my
headlights
to all LED, but I can't find anyone that makes a replacement LED bulb for my car.
Thanks, hello. I'll bear this thread in mind, I have just ordered HID for mine but on my hunt for these I did find a similar set up with LED's using ballasts but can't remember where, if I find them again i'll update, cheers
