The dreaded center console hinge broke again and its been replaced but now the latch to the console does not engage the sensor so when i lock the doors it chirps. I dont know whether to have it fixed or not since it still locks and car alarm is armed.

Hi there and good day to all. The dreaded center console hinge broke again and its been replaced but now the latch to the console does not engage the sensor so when i lock the doors it chirps. I dont know whether to have it fixed or not since it still locks and car alarm is armed. Actually its kinda nice to hear the chirp that i know the car is locked becuase sometimes on sunny days hard to see if the headlites flicker when armed. I imagine ill get it fixed but its an inconvenience to go there for just that. take care.

Take it back to the dealer and make them fix it right! If not, find a new dealer.

Get it fixed or it will become an issue if you try to sell the car in the future. The dealers especially will use any flaw to knock down the trade in.

Is there a simple way to find out what is causing the alarm to beep? Mine does this too but it isn't obvious what causes this. Thanks

It's usually caused by something on the car not being fully closed. Check to make sure that the hood is completely latched. In addition to the console, also check the windows, sunroof, and fuel filler door to make sure they are fully closed. Karl

Doesnt the chirp let you knwo that the alarm is armed? If it doesn't chirp I thought that meant the doors are locked but alarm is NOT armed.

A chirp means the alarm is malfunctioning. I get this on my 996 cab periodically when I cycle the top on uneven ground. Check out the owner's manual :0)

Yes they are cheap. BUT the good news is Porsche had updated the part. I had mine done today under warranty. No questions asked even when I broke the thing sitting on it installing my B&M! Just bring it to the dealer and they will install the update kit for it. No worries and don't sweat the small stuff!
