First off just I was getting low range noises from my door speakers, even when the radio/car was off. Disconnected the front amp and problem is gone but so is my bass.
So is it worth it to replace the stock amp with an aftermarket one? My thinking was that if this stock amp had problems then whose to say a new one won't either. And for the money of the stock amp I should be able to get a decent aftermarket amp that could come into play if I upgrade my speakers.
Follow up question: Anybody have any good recommendations of aftermarket amps that fit in the stock location? How about speaker recommendations?
There has been many threads on this... in any event the JL Audio amp fits in the original amp opening in the frunk easily enough.
Yeah I had seen a few. Was just wondering what the general feeling was on replacing the stock amp with same or going aftermarket.
Some additional info can only help... what year is your car? Does it have the basic stereo (base cayman only), sound package plus or bose?
'08 Cayman. Yes believe its the CDR-24 with sound package plus.
Question: For aftermarket amps like the JL is there a wiring harness adapter?
Not that I know of, you cut off the connector at the amp end. Experiment with the wires and eventually get it right. If need be I can send you the wiring that's now in my car, save you a ton of time
If you have it easily accessible that would be great. If not no biggie.
It's easier to take pics than jot down a bunch of notes...
Standing in front of the frunk and looking down at the amplifier, from left to right (picture #1 is on the far left, #2 is next to it, and so on). Note that picture #1 has a blue cable, that's an additional cable that was added for the subwoofer that was installed and is not part of the standard wire bundle. Picture #4 is kinda blurry but it's the cables that go to the head unit for remote turn on and separate ground and positive cables that are also part of the aftermarket install and are not part of the stock harness. Pretty straightforward
Cost of my system:
Pioneer AVIC-X930BT head unit $545
Pioneer Back Up Camera $150
Pioneer HD unit $90
Eurospeed bracket kit to mount the head unit $250
Infinity Reference Speakers $220
JL Audio amplifier $330
JL Audio subwoofer $50
Awesome, thanks so much for the pictures and breakdown.
Hack, How did you connect the high level input from the radio to the JL Amp?
I just recieved the amp and I only see RCA Level Inputs. Thanks!
If I have the most basic stock sound system (no Bose or sound package plus), are there only 4 speakers (Front L and R, and Rear L and R)?
What size are these speakers? Thanks.
