Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

What's the opinion on replacing the entire PCM unit with an aftermarket nav/dvd? Is that really even an option? I know that a lot of things go through the PCM as far as mpg, miles tracked, etc - will that all get screwed up if I g with something aftermarket? Finding even an updated nav dvd is becoming a huge pain, and between buying a new disc and installing a Denison (to *** bluetooth and iPod), we're already around $1K. Might as well go with an entirely new solution I think? Is there a problem because it's Bose?

POST 2Original post

Not only is it an option for you, but many here have done it. Try a search and you'll find a number of threads directly on point. Bose adds some complications and additional cost, but it's still a relatively easy mod. Here's a start: 987 Bose conversion (site sponsor Euro Motorspeed is a tremendous resource)

POST 3Original post

I installed a Panasonic AVIC Z150 - audio head with nav - into my Gen2 (non-Bose). They're available online for under $800. Install took a few hours with the help of Loi at Euro MotorSpeed and his kit. PCM only provides audio info to the dash. All other data is unaffected.
