i added subwoofer to my rear trunk, and i was able to get signal from the front amp, and ran a single wire from the front to the back.

Suggestion
If it really has 9 speakers instead of 7, then why am I not able to see the "fader" option under "Sound" to adjust the balance between the front and rear speakers.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

I really want to put in rear speakers but the local shop is quoting ridiculous prices for labor, claiming like 6 hours of labor just for removing and replacing all the interior panels.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have the base radio on my base
cayman
and I don't think my rear speakers work. I tried adjusting the fade, but it doesn't allow me to. Does it have speakers in the rear or is it empty?
The only way to know short of having the official
Porsche
wiring diagram is to take out the plastic pieces in the rear hatch area and see if there are wires for speakers there or not. If there are, then "maybe" you can just hook up some speakers, but that would mean the wire was live all the way to the head unit and that still might not be the case. Someone with a base car and base radio will have to do some experimenting for us to get an answer to this.
It was my impression that we had "agreed" to just call it a
Cayman
, not a "base." As for the radio, hasn't that model been described as "standard" or "stock" for the last 100 years?
I dunno... I have the base radio, and was sure that I had rear speakers. Then I ran out and checked. Yep rear speakers. Only when I re-read the original did I notice BASE Cayman. If he would have just said 'Cayman' I would have said, "you're wrong, because my Cayman DOES have rear speakers"... yadda, yadda, yadda... confusion reigns on.
i have a CS, but at the same time i had some experience messing with my audio system. i added subwoofer to my rear trunk, and i was able to get signal from the front amp, and ran a single wire from the front to the back. i was told not to mess with the back of the head unit by other
porsche
owners. is very simple, you can hide all the wires, and nothing will be seen.
OK, Gator Bite is here, the offical 'Base' adjective police officer....!
The
Cayman
comes with a 4 speaker stereo system, unless upgraded to the 7 speaker Sound Package plus (opt. code 490 - $715), or the BOSE Surround Sound System (opt. code 680 - $1,665).
The
Cayman S
comes with the 9 speaker Sound Package Plus, unless upgraded to BOSE system (opt. code 680 - $950).
See that, not once did I use the word 'base'.
Avoiding all the fun with base vs. super-no-base.....I have been searching for a week on this and other sites to find the size of the rear speakers. Anybody know this one?
It is listed in the information guide under "Files" here. They 100MM, 3.9" speakers. I believe there are pictures in the article that K-man-s did on removing interior trim pieces for painting.
Gator Bite: Not to quibble (too much): both the Order Guide in our Files section and the
Porsche
brochure (MKT 001 080 07) list the Sound Package Plus system - Option Code 490 - as having
9
speakers. I believe these are supposed to be 3 across the dash, 2 in each door, and 1 behind each seat. But there is some confusion in the brochure about the Bose System; page 82 says 10 speakers (the 9 plus subwoofer) and the options chart on page 93 says 13 speakers.

Now I need to go to the garage and count.....
Had reviewed the super article from K Man s, but must have missed the sizes. I have the "sound package plus" so will assume the rears are 10 cm drivers just like the
Bose
, just without the amps.
sub install
thenewguy,
I'd like to add an amplified sub to my '07 w/sound pkg plus. Where is the front amp located, and how did you tie into it? Pre-amp or line-level inputs? How did you route the wiring? Do you have any photos of your install?
Thx, Croc'ed
I have the stock radio/cd in my
Cayman
, and I'm pretty sure it has no rear speakers. To get them you have to buy the Sound Upgrade pack (not the
Bose
) which has another amp and additional speakers. Even if you ran wires to the back, there would be nowhere on the head unit to plug them in I imagine, unless you sliced them into the front ones.
JH
My
Cayman S
comes with Sound Package Plus, which is a pleasant surprise. But I am not sure if there is any sound coming out from the two rear speakers. If it really has 9 speakers instead of 7, then why am I not able to see the "fader" option under "Sound" to adjust the balance between the front and rear speakers.
adding rear speakers
Hi all,
I have the same problem as r6tanz. So to this day, has anyone installed additional rear speakers to the standard 4 in the Cayman? Does anyone know how I can access the amp so I can check if there are output for rear speakers and how to remove the rear panel/grill to add the speakers? Better yet, any audio pros in the NoCal/Bay Area that have done it already?
Thanks
Good timing! I spent a little time behind the dash of my
Cayman
2.7 last weekend. There are no rear speaker wires coming out of the CDR-24 (see the excellent CDR-24 pinout diagram that one of our fellow members has put up), but it wouldn't be hard to get a signal from the pins (I did so, temporarily)
I have vaguely contemplated bodging up something from the
Boxster rear speaker kit available online
, but first I'll try hooking up a powered subwoofer behind the seat to see how it goes. Rather than running under the sills, I'm going to try running wires along the transmission tunnel which was a useful system in my old 996.
+1..(i have a 06 CS, with non-bose setup. just dash and front doors)
i just pulled out the stereo and noticed that the rear speaker terminals on the the stereo aren't being used. So i added some wires and have rear speaker signals. Not all is solved though...NO FADER. So they would be on max output all the time.
Can you tell us what was involved in installing your rear speakers? I really want to put in rear speakers but the local shop is quoting ridiculous prices for labor, claiming like 6 hours of labor just for removing and replacing all the interior panels. I really think the basic stereo would be OK if I had rear sound, but the difficulty they claim in installing the rear speakers has kind of turned me off the project (around $1000 for just rear speakers). Also, the more complicated they make it sound, the more scared I get that they might mess up the nice new interior. So, I've put everything on hold for now.
The (empty) speaker grilles in the rear are oval, which precludes using the grills themselves as a base for the rear speakers. Is there anything beneath the grilles that can be used to support the rear speakers (the shop I got the estimate from supposedly took them off and said there was nothing beneath them -- wires or a support -- but I didn't see that and have no way to remove the grilles myself)? What size speakers did you install?
Hi Guys - I have the sound package plus on the 09
cayman
. There is definitely 9 speakers. The fader does pinpoint sound to front and rear of car. Rear isnt very powerful though. Fader should work though.
On a side note -
The quality overall is not that good. I get vibration sound on the drivers side door which i think is simply the door vibrating and not a blown speaker. Base is set to normal...Anyone else?
