I paid £790 at OPC Stockport for the 6yr service in July and that included a drive belt as there was no record of when it was last changed so given it was c£90 for the job I said yes.

I have used Hartech, 9E and JZM and have found them to be extremely knowledgeable, reasonably priced and not in any way out to short-change me.

But I would have had to have replaced it if I wanted the warranty even though it was the exact same specification.

So they get you with the service pricing, then they charge you for the 111-point check which you need for the warranty, then they get you for the warranty.

Hi Folks
Wondering if I could get a straw poll on service costs. OPC is quoting me £1,376 for a major service on my GT4.
I know I can get it cheaper at an indy but just trying to assess whether this is reasonable as OPC pricing goes.
Thanks!

This pretty much the new standard price @ OPC, Porsche have since discontinued the fixed price servicing scheme.... certainly not advertising it anymore.
This price will include the major service, sparks plugs, and the other ancillary checks on the 4 year interval.
They effectively now try to make all the ancillary checks mandatory with the new pricing.

Pretty costly in my opinion. The fluids and parts (probably doesn’t include brake fluid, that’ll be extra) come to perhaps £200. The rest is a staggering price for a numpty to plug it in and spent 3 hours twiddling about. The cars are nearly new. A major on my 996T at 9E was circa £650 on a much older and more complicated car.
I expect you’ll also have to pay the extra for the 111 point check. I’d be interested if they spent any longer on the car including that than on the major service ... money for nothing. Apart from a series of small and not so small bills to bring the car up to the warranty spec - oh and then another £1500 for the warranty too, sir. Perhaps you need to do all this to get another build slot on a new one?
Paid £995 for the 4 year major on my 981 Spyder (same service cost as the GT4) in March at OPC Wilmslow.
They agreed to match the previous fixed price.
Full service including oil & filter, pollen filters, spark plugs and brake fluid change.
That’s your target.....
Thanks everyone for the quick replies, much appreciated.
They've thrown everything into that £1375 including brake fluid change and the tyre sealant/inflator.
I've been thinking about JZM as an alternate and need to phone them to confirm current pricing. They're the only independent I would consider.
I have less than zero love for the OPC for their incessant gouging but it's always useful to know just how badly they're trying to rinse you.

Yep...
Not all OPC’s are the same, the sytner group of OPC’s no longer use fixed price servicing and increased all their prices lately
4 year major require spark plug change which is a big part of the cost.
Also my service manager applied a little common sense that if you have porsche assist why both with new tyre sealant. Call them to recover the car, thats what the service is for if your happy to wait for recovery.

Agree with this 100%. They've worked on my cars before. The first time I used them for some Manthey upgrades, I thanked them for reminding me what service looked like.
Sytner OPC wanted about £1600 for 4 year on my 981 CS.
I went with local specialist DW Performance in the end, the owner used to be the mechanic at the Sytner OPC.

My OPC group is Jardine (East London/Cambridge/Colchester).
Understand the work that's involved in a 4 year and they itemise spark plug change at £279.94 (ex-VAT) but then the major maintenance at £795.46 (ex-VAT) is made up of a number of items that appear as padding for margin.
Not bothered with the tyre sealant, it's advisory and thinking same as yours.
Don't mind paying a fair price but had a major on one of my other cars last year and it was around £1k.

That sounds like a lot of money for routine servicing. Is OPC servicing a condition of the extended warranty?

Yeah, no getting round it. So they get you with the service pricing, then they charge you for the 111-point check which you need for the warranty, then they get you for the warranty.
I didn't bother with the OPC warranty. The only thing that would have made me purchase it would have been as security against the failure of third gear but sufficient claims prompted recall.
Salesman also said that as I had Manthey Racing side intake grills fitted, they'd have to be taken off to ensure elgibility for the warranty. I'm waiting for them to come up with a different warranty for cars that are tracked.
JZM came in at half the price on the service.

To highlight the absurdity of this .... wasn't there a recall on the 718 to fit grills to stop people from igniting their own cars - with cigarette butts out of the window?? LMAO.
I was told I needed to remove my grills from front (I have GTS bumper which is open) if I wanted to bring it in for service, oh and my black vinyl sunstrip.

Yes
no.... legally they cannot do this. The service schedule has to be maintained precisely, but not necessarily by them.

I emailed them about this. Porsche UK.
Their response was the car can be serviced by a 3rd party using genuine Porsche parts that is fine for the Current warranty, but if you want to extend warranty then you must have 111 check and also have another Porsche OPC service to qualify.
Yep, for the 111-point check the last service has to have been an OPC one. If not, you'll need an OPC full service doing before you can extend the warranty again.

But what if I am already in there middle of a two year warranty? My 4 year service will fall between years 1 and years 2 of the two years warranty I have already put on the car. So do I need to OPC if I already have the warranty in place?

If you're planning on extending again, then yes. Unless you want to pay for two services...

Really? So end of year four a major service is required and i am in the middle of a two year extended warranty. So no 111 point check needed as warranty in place. At this point I could go for an independent service. In a years time, at the end of year 5, no service is required but warranty could be extended for another 2 years. 111 point required but the previous years major service was done at an independent. Are they not going to extend the warranty because the previous years service was done at an independent?
This is such a staggering load of old nonsense. My goodness they try to get people by the short and curlies. Removing grilles is ridiculous. Engine fails and non-Porsche wiper blade is fitted ... claim dismissed. Not honorable.

Correct, it's part of the 111-point check. You can't have your cake and eat it!

It's their system and therefore their rules, take it or leave it! No-one has to extend the warranty, you're free to run a car without it.

Not really their rules , as they would not be able to dismiss a engine fault for a non oem wiper blade.
I am done with it all anyway, it is a load of b

I think it’s very rude to call the technician a numpty. They will be trained, certified and likely take quite a pride in what they do.
It’s unnecessary and a bit arrogant.

They could if their wording allowed them to e.g. any modification will invalidate the agreement in its entirety.
You'd need to keep an eye on the exact wording with each renewal.

I know a lot of people with Porkers, all have had issues at service time or warranty time and it's all been avoidable, but cars come back with dents, rips etc etc, it's not one offs either it's every one I know with a Porsche !!!! the service is shocking be it OPC or indys.
You really have to take full pictures of your car and get a service manger to sign a "this car has no marks on it sheet"

I have never had any issues with my OPC (Colchester). From the service desk, right through to the tech's, they have a wealth of knowledge and always take care of my cars. I always extend the warranty and stick with how the car came out of the factory. I like my cars OEM. Having seen what some of the USA chaps do to theirs on certain FB groups, I feel the warranty criteria protects cars for the future!!

Yep...just the first two years. Extended warranties are essentially insurance policies....they can stipulate anything they want. Why can't people just read T's and C's and accept them or don't bother buy the warranty. It isn't hard!!!

Agree that it's not necessary and you're right that they do have to go through certifications but there have been instances where the technician is standing on the other side of the diagnostic with 'computer says no' and is powerless. More a feature of modern cars and the constraints imposed upon service engineers by the manufacturer than a lack of skill or passion. I've never had a problem with anyone who has worked on my cars.
Not all Porsche owners are rude and arrogant but I have witnessed a few entitled scenes over the years in dealerships which has always made me think 'never ever be that guy'.

Feel the same way. I'm less and less interested.
Minor modifications shouldn't be an issue but the battery as a condition of warranty is ridiculous - I refused to pay the just shy of £450 they wanted for a battery and fitting. Bought a battery with longer warranty, did the work myself. Took me less than 15 mins. But I would have had to have replaced it if I wanted the warranty even though it was the exact same specification.
Every experience I have had with main dealers and specifically the headquarters has been questionable. I have been an owner for 12 years and I am very adequately solvent. I can go on and on, but an example: speaking to the UK headquarters concerning an intermittent brake wear warning light, the head tech had never seen it before. To his credit he called me back the next day and told me he could fix it for circa £1300. I called an outfit in Swindon that Reading use for the electrics and immediately had a detailed discussion with a chap intimately familiar with the problem on 996T and had done several before including one at the time of calling. The cost ... £60 - £200 depending on the exact diagnosis.
Also, complete and absolute refusal to engage with vanilla M96 engine issues meant I will never support the network.
I don’t need a blasted warranty and rubber stamp. I have used Hartech, 9E and JZM and have found them to be extremely knowledgeable, reasonably priced and not in any way out to short-change me.
PS you set a high bar at >£200 per hour if you don’t want to be called a numpty. Not many manual professions can command that hourly rate. Interesting to know what the chap with the spanner takes home for such a qualified fellow, and what goes on espresso...

You're right on the high bar at that rate for non-service professionals. You piqued my interest and I did a little search for open roles - seems that OPC West London are hiring a technician - £30k + £5k productivity bonus. I appreciate there will likely be other tiers but as a mid-level role, it gives you a sense. Expensive espresso as you say but refitting to cater for Taycan is costing them all a small fortune - in floor plan and demands on the local grid.

I don't think it's fair to generalise...
[opens can of worms further...]
From my experience, the issues are not Porsche as much as individuals. In fact when I involve Porsche corporate, the results have been perfect in response.
I've used 4 Porsche centres... very mixed experiences. Some situations motivated me to email Chris Craft (at time was UK MD), some caused me to get a solicitor, others required nothing at all (they just say yes to fixing).
One key reason indies can get better approval (apart from being great) - they exist first for servicing cars and selling them became secondary. And smaller numbers helps.
If of any interest to anyone, got it down to £950 at the OPC from an initial quote of £1,400. Gave the business to JZM and decided to do a whole lot of Manthey upgrades at the same time. Took the OPC 4 days to come back to me on the price match.

Good work. What did you get done?
MR pads, lines, fluid? Anything else… Arm package?

Nothing too exotic - braided lines, fluid, fast road setup. If my pads require changing, they'll put MR pads on. I think they've got a bit to go.
I was going to put some BBS FIR wheels on as well but think that'll be a project for next year thanks to C19.

It didn't even require a moment's haggling. JZM have done some Manthey upgrades for me before. £450 is an expensive rubber stamp for the service book.

I could see it that way too but you'd take other factors into account, not just the stamp. If I saw the car had gone outside of the main dealer network to a garage I'd never heard of or a non-Porsche garage, it would red flag.
Guys has anyone had a 6 year service done on their GT4 as most cars now about 6 years old. I was wondering what it involves and what the cost is as 6 year / 60,000 mile is cheaper than 4 year / 40,000 miles service according to chart on page albeit it that it is out of date now .
I think my local garage quote £975 which seems a lot but could be going rate
Any info on service costs could be good
Sid
That's about right. It's oil, oil filter and brake fluid change plus a load of inspections and seems to be around £915 from the cheapest OPCs.
Porsche servicing has really increased in price in the last few years unfortunately.

Should include air filters and belt change right?

Sorry, yes - forgot those! 6yrs is the biggie, plugs are every 4yrs.
So £975 is a very good price indeed - I was getting mixed up.

Just had my 6 year service done. Yes, it included normal service, belt change, air filters and water drains cleaned out. £907. But I wish they wouldn't include the 1L oil top up and bag....it doesn't use any oil, so I've got three now! They didn't need to do brake fluid change (which would have been extra) because I'd had that done early.

A wee update.
Spoke to nice service tech at OPC and they said I can supply my own Mobil 1 oil. That will bring service down to £750 , happy with that
That sounds really, really cheap for a 6yr service at an OPC. Are you sure they're quoting the correct service and therefore items?

The six year service is a minor one (major one should have been done at 4 years plus plugs) but as I mentioned above you have to add belt and filter changes which takes it to over £900. The OPC charges £150 + VAT for the oil alone in the minor service so that looks like why Evosid is getting the total down to £750.

Spot on Oil v ia OPC is coming in at £202!!!
I paid £790 at OPC Stockport for the 6yr service in July and that included a drive belt as there was no record of when it was last changed so given it was c£90 for the job I said yes. They did the whole job without me providing oil.
There was a suggestion there was a 'set price' for the servicing and they offered me a discount - without asking!

That sounds like a lot of money for routine servicing. Is OPC servicing a condition of the extended warranty?
Yes
No, unless the claim can be attributed to the workmanship, most indy's know this and service accordingly using genuine Porsche parts if there is any doubt.

True for the factory warranty but not the extended warranty I'm afraid.

Hi Boxsey, appreciate if you can share where you got yours serviced? Just had a quote back from my local OPC (Reading) quoting a few hundred pounds more for the same work

Porsche centre Wilmslow. It's always best to check what they're quoting for in case they're adding something that has not been done previously. Mine was completely up to date (it had major service and spark plugs at 4 years), so for six years it only needed the above. If they're adding the brake fluid change it would be about £150 more.

Call them again mate. I just got off the phone with PRG… basically £650 inc vat for the core service. brake fluid and air con are extra.
My belt change was done at 4yr Major IIRC.
Spark Plugs and coil packs also already done.
