POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Morning, I’ve been a long time Porsche fan and was lucky enough to own a few Boxsters in my 20’s when they first came out. I had the original 2.5, then the 2.7, 3.2 and then 3.4... all silver apart from the 3.4 which was black. All great cars and the 911 was the logical next step, however, after dealing with Porsche servicing one time too many I went down the Ferrari route and more recently Mclaren and Aston - after experiencing both of them, all is forgiven Porsche In my teens I had a number of car posters on my bedroom wall, with my favourite being the 993 Turbo... A few weeks ago, I was lucky enough to successfully bid on one which came up on Collecting Cars - it was a bit of a risk buying unseen however all I can say is that the car looks even better in the flesh than in the photos, a real credit to those that owned it before. The car drives amazing and the way it puts the power down is addictive, much more fun than the Mclaren. I haven’t quite got used to using the clutch again and I’m sure people are wondering why the tosser in the Porsche keeps doing wheel spins... The 993 won’t be a daily but I’ll use it semi-regularly at weekends. The only thing I don’t like about the car is the blue leather interior... I’m planning to swap this out to black and also update the stereo to Porsche’s new classic stereo. I’ve been speaking to one company that does restorations of Porsche but they’ve required constant chasing, not a great sign during the sales stage. I’m looking for the collective wisdom of PH’ers... What updates/modifications would you make to the car and who would you use? I’ve attached some pics below : Thanks all - very pleased to be back in the Porsche club.

POST 2Original post

I’d park it in a drive in the Fair City. Either that or just drive and enjoy it and then see what you think it needs to bring it to where you want it to be. I think you’ll get used to the metropole blue. Is the gear knob worn away or is it just lighting in the photo?

You are all heart I’m not sure I could ever get used to Metropole blue... it does look better than I thought but it does need to change! Not sure about the gear knob - will check today.

POST 4Original post

500 Miles said: You are all heart Not sure about the gear knob - will check today. Perhaps practical things like lights? Tech has moved on so better illumination might be a good option? Assume you don’t want to move too far from the analogue feel it provides. Detail to make it pop? Then leave it in the Fair City.....

POST 5Original post

Also quite like Metropole Blue with Silver - can’t imagine what it would cost to change properly However, if I was doing it, I would not go ‘coal pit black’, I would go for a ‘911R look’ in something like Espresso, perhaps with houndstooth seat centres. Done properly it would really lift the interior and may even add some value - but won’t be cheap

POST 6Original post

I’d leave the interior colour as is. Authenticity rules. Great cars I miss the one I had.

POST 7Original post

https://images.app.goo.gl/XJWoxsSkW9qNVeFw5 Obviously without the silly mats

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Meeten - Good shout on the lights, not driven it in the dark yet but believe the current lights are as good as a candle I liked the look of the project gold lights, made them stand out. Thanks everyone else. I’m not worrying too much about keeping it original or in maintaining/increasing the value - it’s going to be a very long term keeper and want to get it looking perfect (to me). The brown and the houndstooth looks great - for some reason I’ve always thought the different seat centres look better on 964 cars, I’d have to go tartan (being from gods country) if I was going to go down that route.

POST 9Original post

I wouldn’t do a thing with, apart from drive the wheels off it!

Tartan? There's no tartan in Lancashire? Deep dark red interior looks good in silver 993s, and isn't as gloomy in the cabin as black.

POST 12Original post

Easy, book it in to southbound for their February availability. In the meantime stop being a wuss, these are cars for driving. Get out and drive the f kr. The ever helpful Bert

POST 13Original post

I can see why you might want to change the interior. Personally I would go with something that’s close to OEM Porsche of some era rather than going totally off piste !

POST 14Original post

Welcome back. As above, don't do anything to it, other than... 1. Lights. I have Tore's HID kit for the main beam, which are very good, but then I bought some new projectors, clever ones from a company in the states called Morimoto. Why clever? Because there is a solenoid version which moves the metal cut-off out of the way when you put on full beam. Therefore your full beam bulbs etc are superfluous, as main beam takes over that job. It's one of those aftermarket things that totally exceeded my expectations. On full beam, birds drop out of the sky ahead of me, Hedges catch fire.. and so on. 2. Suspension. which? DYOR. ETA get Centre Gravity to fit it for you, whatever you choose. Nobody else will do as good a job on the 993. Edited by Orangecurry on Saturday 25th July 22:04

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks all. Appreciate that keeping it as it came is probably ‘the right’ thing to do, however, whilst the blue is better than I thought it would be... I can’t see myself keeping it. A good point was made about keeping it as close to oem as possible - im going to fight my inner chav and not raid the Halfords parts bin, I do want something that could have come out of Porsche... I particularly like the project gold car from a couple of years ago, I even considered spraying a 993 gold (I know..).... I do like it’s interior and thinking about something like the below but with silver contrast instead of gold. What do you think? Are Southbound really that busy?? I did see some of their work on 911UK and it did look good.

POST 16Original post

Like that OP ^^^ its yours. Do as you want I say (so long as not Halfrauds raiding as you say)

POST 17Original post

Southbound have had an excellent reputation for umpteen years, and can replicate the full Porsche OE look, which isn't true of all trimmers. Probably not the cheapest, but probably the best. I'm surprised that they have availability as soon as February, but definitely worth popping down to see them. Also a fan of ex-factory originality, but must concede that the espresso 991R interior would work with the 993T and could look very classy.

POST 18Original post

They work more on classics (especially Ferrari’s) but O’Rourke do unbelievable work....I’ve seen a couple of cars they’ve done the work is first class. The roof lining they put on this F12. https://www.coachtrimmers.com/blog/2019/12/5/ferra... and the interior on this Lancia Aurelia Outlaw https://www.coachtrimmers.com/lancia-outlaw-4 show what they are capable of when you ask them to do a bespoke interior.

Keep it blue inside, you'll kill a bit of value if you change it...?

POST 22Original post

No problem. I looked on their current website, and it is damn confusing. I bought the Morimoto 'Mini H1 7.0 Bi-Xenon' RHD projectors, and they fit in the 993 'standard' housings. With the levelling motors that we have in ROW housings (the US don't) it is awkward to fit one side (can't remember which) but if I can do it, you can, or even a garage might On the box - 'Morimoto's Bi-xenon projectors produce a low and high beam pattern using a single HID bulb and a mechanical shutter' They may have a new version by now. POST 25Original post

Mine has the blue interior and although it wasn’t my first choice when I bought the car I’ve just got used to it (over 12 years). I do get doubts over time, normally after reading forums, but at the end of the day, I like the idea of originality and now see it is being quite characterful

POST 26Original post

Only change wheel and dash to black? And carpets. It's the all-navy, 1990s look that is not ideal. All-grey is worse. I have Marble Grey but that has black wheel and dash which makes it look OK. But you will probably get used to it, agreed. How many UK cars are all-black inside - bet there are not that many, more a European thing.

POST 27Original post

If its not used much and they havent been done I would suggest a pair of turbo oil feed non return valves as fitted to 996,FVD Brombacher supplied mine with feed lines,it helps stop the smoke on startup. HTH G

500 Miles - how about this interior? https://collectingcars.com/for-sale/1995-porsche-9...

POST 29Original post

Depends how far you want to go, I did everything to mine, hybrid turbos, 100 cel cats, extra oil cooler, bespoke rose jointed mono ball suspension just to start with. Just basics, I did the HID Headlights which were essential, a 996 Steering wheel, a golden rod quick shift. Had to mess around with the geo to get the thing to turn into corners and not understeer everywhere, great solid cars, also definitely carry a spare fan belt as they throw them off regularly. Mine only did this once in 9 years, but it's a far more common problem than that suggests. Maintenance is expensive as parts increased 6 fold over my ownership period, also completely different to running the 993 Carrera I had before it. I miss it every day though!

Hi 500, As someone hoping to buy a car through CC could you tell me how easy it was to do the deal ? For reasons I won’t bore you with I won’t be able to collect the car in person so will need it delivering and wondered best way of making sure once I’ve paid the goods are delivered etc. I used to have a silver x50 993 turbo. Mine had a black interior. I also had a 993 c4 cab and metro blue wasn’t my favourite either. Cheers

So it's all down to how the transaction with the seller goes. Bert

Cheers Dead easy - bidding was all online - the bid increased quickly at the beginning, stopped in the middle of the week and then increased quickly again in the last few hours. This 993 was stored next to a car transport company - the owner of the transport company owned half of the storage company - which meant having it transported was dead easy. Car was as described and the who process went smoothly. Am I right in thinking that CC take the premium direct from the buyer and leave the buyer to do the deal direct with the seller? So it's all down to how the transaction with the seller goes. Bert Yes - cc store your credit card and take the payment as soon as the auction finishes. You are then connected with the seller and arrange to make the payment and pick up the car etc.
