I have the sports seats - heated, and am putting in a set of comfort seats which came from a
cayman
without the heated option. Just wondering (and guess I will find out soon) is the power connector the same? I guess I am hoping that there is more than one connector and that the heated seat option would be a seperate connector.
I guess I will know when I start removing in a few days - but thought I would ask the braintrust - hoping one of you could prepare me before I get into it.
Thanks for any help.
Why am I changing?? Only because I got a good deal on these seats and they are brand new. Mine look great for 20 k miles, and I like them much better than the comfort seats - but I want to keep both sets looking fresh. So I am swapping so that I can keep mine looking top notch. I will swap for 5-8 K miles and then likely swap back. This way I figure I will have new looking seats for longer. I plan to sell the comforts when everyone starts wearing thier seats out....these are 12x power...but otherwise not special.
Thanks again for any help..
There is a universal connector with multiple sections, I suspect if you don't have heated seats those sections wouldn't have any wires or pins or whatever. Then again, if the seats have heaters in them but aren't hooked up in cars without heated seats you could be pleasantly surprised to find your other seats respond when plugged in and heat up, although that's probably wishful thinking...
K-Man,
The universal connector with only the pins for what you have makes the most sense - I hope that is correct. I will post an update when I pull them, which depends on kids schedule this week for first week of school. I will post a pic or 2 of what I find.
Thanks

When I pulled my driver's manual, unheated sport seat a while back to install a fire extinguisher bracket, the connector had what looked like several unused sockets, so my guess would be they're all the same, and individual connectors are used depending on what options the car comes equipped with when it's assembled.

I tried to change sport seats to heated comfort seats in a 2000 era
Porsche
. It did not work--nothing electrical worked in the seats. I was told by a
Porsche
mechanic that each car has a wiring harness specific to itself and its options. I found this hard to believe as the labor and expense would be a real waste. I was told again that it would be a major undertaking to get the seats to work. I am looking forward to seeing how this project works out. Good luck.
The situation is still the same - each car has a custom wiring harness for only its factory options, but I believe the connectors are the same - it's just that the wiring does not exist for options not original to your car... the connectors have a lot of little sockets, but I'm sure they're not wired for options not original to the car. If you put power seats into a car that had manual seats, I'll bet the electric seat back tilt would still work, but the power back-and-forth and height adjustments probably will not. If you don't have the heated seats originally, they won't work if you install seats with the heaters.
