Hi I have just purchased the new lettering for the trunk lid. I have the "Porsche" letters and the "
Cayman S
" letters to place on the lid. The letters did not come on a useful template or transfer (they are just stuck to a adhesive sheet).
This looks like a PITA job to make sure the spacing etc are correct. Does anyone know these measurements? My only thought right now is to try and match them to a picture somewhere?????
To confirm I am trying to retrofit them to a Series 1
Cayman S
.
Help!
Cheers
Just got the answer:

I just did this last week. I used a masking tape method and it was a huge PITA. The laser line idea is brilliant. I'm going to run one this weekend just to see how off I was. That should make it must easier though!
Let me know how yours comes out. I too ordered them and they are at the paint shop. I emailed Suncoast when I got the Porsche ones and thought they were defective as they arrive not ready for application. The response was they are for every Porsche and the dealer has someone trained for the application.
Since I'm not sure if I will eventually use the Porsche one yet ( although I had them painted just in case) I will watch how others use them. I wanted the smaller
Cayman S
for sure....I had a 914-6 back in the day and always liked the Porsche emblems assembled in a linear fashion, our cars are a bit more fussy.
Thanks for starting this thread.
I just applied the Porsche wordings to my 09 Cayman, i used the laser leveler method it worked quite well. you just have to decide if you want the alphabets in a straight line, curved up or curved down slightly. I did mine with a slight curve up, but its a matter of preference. for the inter-alphabet spacing, I think I used the "O" alphabet as a guide.
Best of luck!
Hurray they have arrived:
As you can see the Cayman lettering is far smaller.
I am wanting to achieve the same look as this.
From this perspective the "Porsche" part looks straight. However.....
Not from this angle!
So I am beginning to scratch my head on firstly how to separate the letters so they can be provisionally placed/not slide down. Maybe I should fit them with the trunk open and propped up level?
Then I need to work out the curve???!.....Lots of thinking to be done!
If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.
Ok so I decided I wanted to have "the curve" what I hadn't realised is what a PITA this was to achieve. Anyway with help from a fellow member "Magnetworks" I had all the measurements. Thanks for the below image friend!
My template made and measured to the centre:
Having already cleaned off all of the muck with alcohol I was ready. Now the letters are ready to stick I warmed up the back of the trunk with a hairdryer and warmed the adhesive of the letters by placing them on warm plate (heated in the microwave with a little water on it). This produces optimum temperatures for the adhesive.
The finished result:
I am really pleased with the end result. It may not look like it from the above picture but it is quite curved upwards from the side angle. I moved the template around to get the position I wanted. It might not be to everyone's liking but I think this is just right for me. Now for a
Great work! Now send me the template! :hilarious:
I recently got my 987.1 Base Cayman and want to use your resulting placement. I would really appreciate your posting the centerline spacing (1) between the bottom of lid and the bottom of the "m" in Cayman and (2) that bottom of Cayman and the top of the "S" letter.
