Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

My car is Iris Blue with grey full leather interior, with the factory installed carbon/aluminum shifter and handbrake.
Leading evidence: 'Install carbon/aluminum shifter and handbrake' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'most costly)' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Install carbon/aluminum shifter and handbrake' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

He didn't identify the manufacturer of the kit, but did send me a schematic showing the layout which looks like the schematic used by Legend 5 from Arizona and streetermotorsports from Mass (the later sells dashkits made by Shillerusa).

Yes, I saw the article and I spoke with Matt - that is probably the right way to go (but also probably the most costly).

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I haven't quite built up the courage yet to tell my wife that my christmas list may include an after-market carbon/fiber dash kit for my car ('99 C4) (she loves that I love the car, but thats about it and I've recently told her I need new tires!), but it might. Have any of you purchased and installed such a kit (or had such a kit installed)? The price points (and I imagine quality) of these kits seems to vary significantly from around $300 to $1500 with or without installation. If so, I'd welcome any recommendations (or cautions) either on the board, or if you feel more comfortable, by direct email. My car is Iris Blue with grey full leather interior, with the factory installed carbon/aluminum shifter and handbrake. The balance of the interior is a bit boring (thus my thought about installing the kit).
Thanks.
Dear Brian:
If you're a member of the Metro NY Porsche club, look in this month's issue of the Porsche Post. There's an article by Matt Zakiarian(?), one of their detailers, who says he's located a good after market dash kit although he doesn't identify it. You might try calling him for details as to cost. If you don't get the Porsche Post, e-mail me you're fax number and I'll send it to you.
Thanks Speed. Yes, I saw the article and I spoke with Matt - that is probably the right way to go (but also probably the most costly). I know that if I have Matt do it, it will be a quality product and the best possible installation - just trying to see what other options are out there before I make a final decision.
Regards.
Just out of curiosity, what dash kit is he recommending and what is the cost, installed? How does it compare to the cost if you order it as an option from Porsche?
He didn't identify the manufacturer of the kit, but did send me a schematic showing the layout which looks like the schematic used by Legend 5 from Arizona and streetermotorsports from Mass (the later sells dashkits made by Shillerusa). The quote I was given by Matt was $795 installed. The Porsche factory option (small carbon package) is about $2500. I think if I ordered the carbon kit directly from the manufacturer and was willing to install it myself, it would cost around $350 to $400. The issues I haven't resolved yet (to my own satisfaction) are (i) which manufactuer makes the best after market product, (ii) will the product hold up over time, (iii) can I install it myself or do I need a professional installation, (iv) is it worth sticking with the porsche factory installation given the very significant price differential and (v) at the end of the day, is it worth the risk (I'd hate to damage the finish of my leather dash by installing the kit and if it doesn't last, I'll end up with a damaged dash).
