Another major set-back for Porsche---- but super wild exciting hardcore 460HP CLKs fighting 475HP BMWs.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Strong rumors that Mercedes Benz is readying their AWESOME CLK DTM racecars for GT racing against Porsche GT3RS and BMW M3 GT3R (M5 engined M3 racecars)in the American Lemans series. If that happens.......kick *** seriuos factory German World War 3 racing in the USA. Another major set-back for Porsche---- but super wild exciting hardcore 460HP CLKs fighting 475HP BMWs. It will be great if Uwe Alzen, Bernd Schneider and all the bad-asses of the DTM come over to the states. They should set these boys loose at Watkins Glen and Sears Point during a NASCAR race......that would even be more outrageous. I just hope Porsches Cayenne sells bigtime......and they are planning a counterattack.......Porcshe has a tall order to keep parity let alone win or dominate GT or even GT2 races with Saleens S7R & Corvette CR5s, and the new Viper soon to debut.

POST 2Original post

Thanks, interesting update ...and I thought ALMS GT class was supposed to be for production cars When was the Carrera GT supposed to go into production?

POST 3Original post

Joe, I don't think you are going to see many Porsches in the ALMS next year. I have heard that Porsche is not going to give support for a 'factory team'.. The GT3RS will be in the Grand AM filling the GT class. I have also heard that Nissan will have an entry in the ALMS and so will AUDI. This is info that my mechanic has past on to me from teams he works for/with. Greg

POST 4Original post

I thought the DTM cars were custom motors (a la NASCAR) with substantial additional tube frame components?

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

DTM cars are extreme racecars......but AMLS want factory racecars that are hiteck for the "SHOW & GO"! effect. I am all for that.....Porcshe will get something together as they will be forced to do so.......this is good for street enthusiasts longterm. Grand-AM is wheere most of the GT3R S will be running for sure. Unfortunatley the 5 liter M5ed M3s will all be there running faster than 2001 cars as they have had another year to refine the cars and will dominate. If I was a GT3RS owner I would be Xtremely pissed off if Porsche ceased ongoing racedevelopment or track side race support of my $225,000 racecar that I had invested in......and was currently uncompetative in because of power.........they could bump the displacement to 4.2liters and lobby for restictors on M3s and get the Caynene Motor ready to shove up the GT3s & BMWs asses.

POST 6Original post

I always thought the DTM cars have as much in common with production cars as the "Moby Dick" had in common with the production 911. Hmmm.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
