Also the car was running lumpy at tick over - the day was wet and I know that the coil packs had cracks in them when I fitted new plugs so thought I'd change them too.

Suggestion · Original poster

Disconnecting the MAF (having drilled the head torx screw that was rusty to remove and work out how to disconnect the wiring clip which was not easy!) allowed the engine to rev and all seems good (tick over still marginally lumpy).

The car is triptronic and access seem terrible so I'll set aside some time for that.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all. Got a problem with my Boxster 3.2 Triptronic 2000 not running. Starts and sounds OK for 4 seconds then slowly revs decrease and car stalls. No response from the throttle. Last time I took the car out (2 weeks ago) - it had a whistle which by reading the threads I thought maybe the AOS which I have purchased but not yet fitted. Also the car was running lumpy at tick over - the day was wet and I know that the coil packs had cracks in them when I fitted new plugs so thought I'd change them too. I fitted the Nearside ones and tried the engine and the stall thing occurred. Unfortunately I didn't start the engine prior to fitting so thinking maybe something there. The OBD reader has a PO740 TCC Circuit Malfunction error come up (seen this before but no obvious problems) Now thinking could be the MAF but with the coil packs / AOS / TCC fudging the issue I don't know what to start first. It's raining outside and can only work on the car in drive in the dry. I also have only one working arm :ah:so any work is hard won. Any direction / plan of attack would be appreciated. Cheers Roger.

Really - OK another thing add to the list!

POST 5Original post

It might be possible that you got a bad batch of fuel and your filter is blocked.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Disconnecting the MAF (having drilled the head torx screw that was rusty to remove and work out how to disconnect the wiring clip which was not easy!) allowed the engine to rev and all seems good (tick over still marginally lumpy). Cleaning the MAF with MAF spray didnt help so a new one is on the cards. I think I'll still do the AOS which reading 101 Projects suggests that could be the cause of failure. The car is triptronic and access seem terrible so I'll set aside some time for that. Incidentally the corrugated pipe coming to the AOS was split and bodged with duct tape which may have been the squeal originally heard? Anyway thanks to Oggie and Nieuwhzn for replying - I think I'll put the fuel filter on the list..
