Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1Original post

So I read the threads about painting the front lips and have my paint and clear coat from paintscratch as well as new lips...but do I need to prime them first?

POST 2Original post

Yes. They are also plastic, so the primer paint and clearcoat should all be formulated as such (that is, they have "flex agent" in them)

POST 3Original post

I was wondering about a paint with flex additive as well...but noone seemed to mention this before and I just ordered the stuff that was for porsche A1 black from painscracth.

POST 4Original post

i didnt primer my lips when i painted them. Just sanded them down and clean them real good.

POST 5Original post

I used "Adhesion Promoter" by Dupli-Color before priming. You can get it at any automotive store. Did the trick for me. Good luck.

POST 6Original post

Acck, looks like ****. I painted it and the color match seems to be OK, but its quite dull. I applied the clear coat and it just looked kind of "dusty". How do you get it to shine like the rest of the car? Its pretty humid, would that have caused this?

POST 7Original post

What a waste of time that was. The paint was so soft it marked easily. I may have had a shot if I primed it, but it peeled of with ease. The clear coat made it so dull and I tried rubbing compound but that didnt work. Next stop...body shop, not worth my time for a sub par job anyway.

POST 8Original post

i just went to a local body shop and painted it for $100

POST 9Original post

I have painted a couple of pairs of lips. Used the standard primer. There are quite complete directions on the PaintScratch website. They underline the fact that the color coat won't shine up, and that the clearcoat is necessary. They go on to say the clearcoat will not look shiny after drying, and that a medium rubbing compound must be used. I can tell you that you have to underline the rub . Actually I used a buffing bonnet with good effect. They look OK afterward. Marty
