Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Took my car into the dealer to handle a squeak that had developed behind my head. I had read several posts about squeaks being produced by misaligned back hatches that didn't close evenly. After some research my service adviser informed me that the spoiler (Techart) was loose enough and had develped the squeak. I called Techart/Cecwheels, who told me that the spoiler was adhered to the car with "glue" butyl compound. This is the Techart approved installation method. I thought this to be very strange since glue to me is not a secure to fasten anything to a car. Cec could not help me and didn't have any spare glue, they advised me to call local body shops and get their advice. Of course the body shops didn't want the liability of sticking my spoiler to the car...and their best sugestion was either 1) screw it to the car or 2) find some glue and stick it on. Not sure screwing would work since it appears to be fiberglass or plastic. I ended up using some contact glue which seems to be working well. Any suggestions?

POST 2Original post

Glues can be much better than bolting. It depends on the composition of the objects that are being glued together. Lotus uses a lot of glue in the manufacturing process. The F-18 is also glued.
