This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that report identifying a cause

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Leading evidence: 'reported there' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'reported there' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check wires' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

OK, if my engine has 100.000 miles I should be ready for the engine repair/replacement.

Suggestion
, there is a known defect with some of our engines and a silent Porsche repair campaign on them for broken piston tops (result of a faulty casting I believe) and Porsche WILL pick up the tab if your car is one of these cars and you have that problem, so it would be worth talking to Scott about to see if this may be the issue.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi,
I own an
Cayman S
, built in May'06.
I bought it in US dealership (December '06) and took it home in Russia.
The car has a total of 18.000 Km (11K miles) and it's been always serviced.
Two weeks ago I heard a small mechanical noise coming from the engine but the engine was running great and there were no warning lights/messages on the dash.
Oil and coolant levels were OK.
There is 1 mile between my home and local Porsche dealer and
next
day I went to dealer.
You can see the diagnostic result on the photo.
The problem is that the car is out of warranty (warranty period is 2 years in Russia)
The cost here in Russia is about 65K US$ for new replacement engine or about 25K US$ for refurbished engine.
Russian Porsche branch will not split the cost of engine replacement, they told me that it's my problem.
I have no choice, I will pay because I love my car.
But...
OK, if my engine has 100.000 miles I should be ready for the engine repair/replacement.
But 11k miles?
I bought a Porsche.
Next time will I have to buy Focus or Corolla?
Sorry to hear this Andrey,
I have access to a engine with 124 miles only before the car was crashed. (I already have the gearbox in my car) cost for this is 4500GBP approx $6500!!! don't know if this is of any use to you??
it looks like small impact dings on the piston then it went between bore and piston. perhaps a lawyer can help...why should a car bought in the US lose its warranty...find another dealer
Thank you.
I have ordered refurbished engine from dealer, because there are very big problems to import engine in Russia myself (crazy custom fees, a lot of papers and time).
Unfortunately, dealer is right.
"The warranty periods begin on the day of delivery to the customer. The following periods apply:
* 4 year / 50,000 mls (80,000 km) warranty for all new vehicles whichever occurs first*;
................................
*Applies for vehicles purchased and registered in the USA and Canada (outside the USA and Canada 2 years / unlimited miles)."

Ummm I would stop and contact Scott at
Softronic
, there is a known defect with some of our engines and a silent Porsche repair campaign on them for broken piston tops (result of a faulty casting I believe) and Porsche WILL pick up the tab if your car is one of these cars and you have that problem, so it would be worth talking to Scott about to see if this may be the issue.
Sorry for your loss. I can only imagine your pain and disappointment. Sorry to break it up to you that no Focus, Corolla or even a Lada would break at 11K miles. Maybe a Wartburg... but not sure if anybody here ever heard of it.
It's worth the fight... check with Softronic and update us please. It's a shame that Porsche hide behind their failures like that and instead brag about the perfection of their engineering.
That is dirt cheap !!! Water coolant and gaskets almost cost me half of that amount in spare parts ONLY!!! I wish none of us needs to replace his engine, but if any does I wish we can can have a bargain like that. God bless you Tess, you could be a car-life saver with that offer.
Again Ken, the valuable info exchanged on this forum proves to be priceless. You could be saving one of us 30%-50% of the price of his car with this info. May I ask if this defect is associated with a certain year model or generation? And at what milage does is it likely to occur.
Or better, Andrey:
1) have your dealer buy/import the engine for you.
2) buy the engine yourself and have it delivered/shipped to the dealer.
I sincerely hope that Porsche foots the entire bill. For all our sakes,Given that the engine only had 11k miles and was regularily serviced....in my opinion it is not acceptable that you be treated in such a manner...Goodluck and please keep us posted as to the final outcome.Porsche needs to treat there customers with a little more respect...
Andrey,
PM sent to you with contact details as promised..
Make sure you quote your VIN Number. As from this they can trace all actions taken on, or with the car including all servicing, warranty work, when the car was moved from the US to Russia etc etc
I will defer to Scott, but if I recall correctly it was certain 2006 987's had faulty piston castings where the top of the pistons would break. I don't know what VIN#'s were affected, etc. but his problem sounds sort of like that, but again may or may not be the same problem but I think it is worth investigating.
Thanks Madcow, but isn't that what were all here for, to try and help each other.?

PS I hope things work out for the best Andrey.
This seems typical of the majority of car dealerships worldwide in my experience. If you don't buy the new or used car directly from your local dealer they will treat you as a second class citizen...or worse. Premium customer service applies only to those who meet their loyalty programme and that unfortunately relates first and foremost to the dealership and not the brand. I would like to believe that in your case, Andrey, if you can address this directly with Porsche Germany, they will take a very different approach and fully sympathise with your predicament. By rights and on evidence of full main dealership service record and mileage since new Porsche should instruct the dealer to replace the engine at Porsche's cost or at the very least effect the necessary repairs with warranty thereafter. Fight the good fight and I best of luck in your campaign. Keep us posted on the outcome.
Hi,
There are some news.
I sent e-mail to Porsche AG , Germany (thanks, Allan, for contact info) and there is the result -- 30% discount on engine from "Porsche Russland" (Russian company, who have exclusive rights to import, sell and service Porsche cars in Russia) and 10% from local dealer.
New engine was installed and car sound and run are perfect, I checked this yesterday.
But.. there is new issue.
Warning light "
Battery
/Generator" on dash screen and error P0621 in
PIWIS
.
Last week dealer cannot find why there this error is.
They replaced generator,
DME
, checked wires... no result yet
Same issue was reported there -

I'm waiting again. It's so hard w/o lovely car.
Thank you for your help. It's so nice to know that there are friends who are ready to help.
Sorry to hear about your trouble, my hope it could be installation mistake. If not, fix it then my advice is to sell the car immediately !

Hi Andrey, Glad your almost there. I'm sure that the latest problem will be fixed quickly......
I fly to your country
next
week, well, into Vladivostok and then drive to Magadan (it's only 3500miles (>5000kms) ..!!) and the last 1500miles is on the road of bones (Kolyma Highway) which has got to be an adventure??.....well...hasn't it
