Then wired the Amp switch wire using a male/female connector to the Yellow part of the Y/G/B block.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello chaps,
Got my 996 back in nov and the Pioneer Sat Nav's screen was a bit buggered and there was some hissing sounds... got round to striping it out today and to replace with a new DVD/Sat Nav screen.
Stripped the whole thing out... took ages! (pic below)
I believe that I have the BOSE speaker system. Bose on the grilles and have seen an amp under the bonnet.
So, I went to buy the Autoleads PC9-410 (with rca phono plugs)
But my plugs look like this....
I think that Bose Systems should have 2 plugs instead of 3 (an image I found is below)
I think because the old Pioneer unit did not have RCA outputs, the installermay have added the brown (speaker) plug in... Probably explains why I had a nasty hissing sound from the old stereo....
Here comes the question(s)....
The Red Autoleads plug connects to the Yellow/Green/Blue car plug. But the only part that is wired on the Red plug connects to the yellow section... The only wire I have on the yellow section is the Amp remote wire. Therefore the 4 Phono RCA plugs are not connected...
No sounds! :nooo:
Plugged in the brown plug and got sounds again....(hissing came back)
Scratching my head at the mo....
Does anyone know (looking at the pics above) if:
a) The autoleads adapter I have is wrong
b) I need to modify the Yellow/Green/Plug
or both....???
Help!
hi there
dont know whats causing the hissing but having just removed my original porsche cdr22 head unit to replace it i can tell you that the brown plug for all the speaker outputs is the standard porsche wiring harness unit,
its possable the hissing is due to a overdriven and therefore broken speaker or can sometimes be down to the amp starting to malfunction and making noise not the head unit,
are green/yellow/blue connectors are for
blue=original equipment cd changer (so you wont use)
green=telephone interface (again dont think you are using)
yell0w= lineout and i think amp turn on (this is the oes that your new connector is for so correct you only have 5 wires)
good luck with finding the fault
cheers
tim
Hello,
Thanks for that.
I've only got the Amp switch wire connected at the yellow section of the plug at the moment. That'll explain it.
Just looked again at the Autoleads plug and it has 6 wires and not 5.
I think they should be.
-Amp switch (100% sure)
-Front L Speaker +ve
-Front R Speaker +ve
-Rear L Speaker +ve
-Rear R Speaker +ve
- Phono -ve
Think I'll have to butcher the brown plug to rerun the wires to the Yellow slots.
Need to find out what them speaker wire colors are now!
honestly think thats why the speakers have an intermittent hiss. Because the amp is now fed the higher wattage signal from the unit and not the lower powered RCA signal...... (he saids confidently!!) :?:
Sorry, but if you have the brown plug, then they are the speakers wires. You can't have an amplifier, because if you did there would be no brown plug. If that's the case, then the Autoleads adapter is not required. The brown plug is factory fit, and should plug directly into the DIN speaker output of your head unit.
Check for option code 490 or 680 on your options sticker. That would indicate if you have an amp or not. An easier way to tell is if you have door speakers or not.
Hello,
Definately says Bose on the speaker grille, I have a boombox thingy on the parcel shelf and I have something that looks like an amp next to the spare tyre.
Also, when I plug in the brown plug, there was no sound. Then when I plugged in the Amp remote wire to the one wire on the yellow plug, sounds come on.
Hope that means I have the factory amp.
Think the installer took off the 5 lead out wires rerouted it to a brown plug.
Do you think it will be safe for me to butcher 5 metal connecters on the blue and green sections of the plugs to rewire the yellow bit? ( As I don't have a original CD Changer or Telephone)
And with the -ve pin, does it matter which one I use to to run to the amp? (FR,FR,RL, RR) or can I clump them all together?
Many Thanks
Just found the service book..... saids 680.
Sorry - now I see. It's the Bose analog system you have. The wires in the brown plug are the amplifier inputs. As far as I can see, the Bose amp seems to connect to the speaker outputs of the head unit. That could be your problem.
You should be able to plug the brown plug into the speaker output socket on the new head unit, but you will also need to provide a switched signal for the amp, or you won't get any sound.
If you PM me with your email address I could send you the wiring diagram if it would help.
Update. Thanks to Richard H for helping me out with the wiring diagrams..
In the end, I didn't want to butcher the fatory wiring harness or the autoleads one... so, I cut up a RCA Phono cable I had in the shed and wired up the head units RCA output to the speaker wires in the ISO block.
Like so....
Then wired the Amp switch wire using a male/female connector to the Yellow part of the Y/G/B block.
Hey presto! no more interference sounds. I just have to turn up the vol a little as its low level compared to the 4x45w normally going via the ISO. But its now really clear and still bloody loud on max volume. Well pleased!
Now onto working out how to install TOMTOM or IGO8 software onto the unit..... anybody any good with this?? :?:
That's weird. Your rear wiper button is on the opposite side to mine. I'd have thought that would be a standard placement.
System looks good - is that a fold away screen? I couldn't live without my coffee cup holder!
It IS weird! On a RHD car it would normally be on the left hand side at the bottom, under the heated screen switch. On a LHD car the switches are mirrored.
Hi Chaps,
No idea... thats how the buttons were arranged when I got my car. All works so I'm not worried. :dont know:
Yep, its the fold away type. I was thinking of relocating the heater controls to the bottom and get a double din but wasn't sure if it was easy or not.. (lengthing wires and so on...) :what:
Cheers.
Another one of life's little mysteries......
It's pretty easy to move the aircon panel, as the wires are plenty long enough. They build the looms so that it will go in either position. You only need to buy the trim surrond, as it is a different shape - it costs about £3.
my rear wiper switch is also on the right. Its actually a pain as you cant see it easily as its masked by the steering wheel and pretty close to the PSM deactivation switch!
