Cheers, I'm doing this for a friend and told him I thought it was the light switch (after pointing him to a thread on here) and he reckoned 'no no it'll be the ignition switch as I'm not getting the bongs when I leave my lights on'.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, I'm just in the process of trying to replace the ignition switch on a 2004 C4S and am having a little bit of a problem. I've got the old one out, new one in, however with the new one in the key didn't turn at all. Took it back out again, and after some head scratching had worked out that whilst the original switch turned clockwise, this one for some reason turns anticlockwise?? The new part I've got it part number 4A0905849B, just can't work out why it turns the opposite way to the current part. Any ideas, or have I been sold a duff switch? The reason for changing was that the dash lights were not coming on with the headlights, and there was no 'bong' when opening the door when leaving the headlights on. Also if the car has had the revised/newer ignition lock assembly or whatever it's called, could that be the issue with my new part? Cheers!

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The plot thickens, ooking around on the net it looks like I might have the later lock assembly and require part no. 996-347-017-07, would that make sense? Also for my issue of the no bongs and dash lights not working would you say that is the ignition switch causing the fault or the light switch itself? Thanks!

POST 3Original post

Light switch. Went on my 04 C4S also. Same symptoms. I got an indy to do it - but the receipt says... 1x 99661353500 Switch 64.91+ VAT (8/12/09) If that is any help. (maybe you have a LHD or antipodean ignition switch )

Cheers, I'm doing this for a friend and told him I thought it was the light switch (after pointing him to a thread on here) and he reckoned 'no no it'll be the ignition switch as I'm not getting the bongs when I leave my lights on'. I hope it is the light switch so I'm right And I'm not the one paying for the part, although I will be fitting it As for the ignition switch, looking on a US site the one that's currently in the car looks like part number 4B0-905-84, with a white body, rather than the black plastic casing of the replacement part I've got sat infront of me. So think it's got the new assemby already.
