Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. I just wanted to mention that a pal of mine just bought a new car, and while he was at the dealer (Porsche dealer) he ran across this selection of 1999 996 coupes they had.

Suggestion
The dealer, however, did do one decent thing for me: he let me run the sale of the '99 through his dealershio so that I saved about $3,800 on the sales tax.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Here was the average run down:
1999 guards red/ black. 42K miles, 1 owner, warrantee, $44,500 retail (I confirmed it, gave dealer a call. Dealer said "Yes, what color would you like!?")
Here is a photo even:
The dealer can get a boat load of these. None are moving, no interest on such a car I was told.
I myself have been thinking of a 996 coupe. As a matter of fact, this car (or any like it) was almost an exact match for the style I was thinking of buying. But this dealer can't even move these cars. No one wants to even give them a glance. It just really caught me off guard that a 996 could be this hard to sell.
I know it is "tough" out there right now. But man... $44K? What will they be priced at next year?
I may just relax for now & just continue to be happy where I am.
Dear Michael B.
We're having the same experience in the East. I had a '99 red cabriolet 996 with 55k miles. In July I ordered an '02 cab that came in two weeks ago. The dealer's wholesalers were offering $40,000, but I was able to sell it privately for $45k. The dealer, however, did do one decent thing for me: he let me run the sale of the '99 through his dealershio so that I saved about $3,800 on the sales tax.
I think that between all the 996's that are now coming off 3-year leases and the post Sept. 11 world, the resale market for these cars is going to be weak.
Thanks for the fast reply "Speed."
I really love the 996. I think I will watch the market & go from there. I hope that I find a dealer that will be as cool as yours was (on the tax thing at least).
I think mileage on these cars really bites into resale. I still see many $50K+ low mile 996's (I don't think they are selling though). It seems that once they hit 40K miles, they go quite a bit cheaper.
I don't mind I guess. These prices may work out for me in the short run.
dang - '99 cab for $45k? where was i when that deal was offered? what's amazing is that there's a florida boutique shop that's offering '99 coupes for $399/mo for 24 months w/ $3k down. i asked him what the residual was at the bank and he said $44k - boy, are the banks going to take it on the chin for that one...though excellent for anyone that wants to do a short-term lease.
p.s. isn't it amazing that the 996 are almost cheaper than the 993's?
